Terrible aches. I feel like an old lady.

I'm 55. Been on HRT (Evorel Sequi patches) for 4 years.

Gradually over the last 6 months or so, I've been so stiff and achy. I feel very old.

I'm on turmeric and black pepper, magnesium and omega fish oils. But still feel ridiculously stiff.

I also do stretches every day. Yoga 3-4 times a week and walk for an hour a day.

Does anyone have any suggestions of anything else I could be doing?

Watching with interest.
I'm 53 and on HRT but the last few weeks I've been having terrible hip pain. I do yoga 5 times a week and walk daily.
I'm taking glucosamine and magnesium but nether making a difference so far.

I’m 51 and was like this last year, saw a private menopause specialist who changed my patches to oestrogel and utrogestan
I think that being able to tweak the doses of gel has made a massive difference to how I feel.
Can do workouts now without feeling achy and stiff the next day

I've been like this for years but GPs just shrugged their shoulders. They hadn't even linked it to menopause so it was very strange for me to read in newspapers this year that it's a common side effect of menopause.

I started collogen gummies a week ago as I can't take starflower or evening primrose etc.

My friend on hrt was given testosterone by a private clinic which solved her hip pain in a matter of days.

Pixiedust1234 · 20/11/2024 22:13

Oops, I used a word beginning with gum. Basically I've started on collogen.

That's interesting

I’m 58 - last year I ached like I was 98 and had no energy (or libido).
Increased my oestrogel to 4 pumps and added in testosterone and this year I’ve been walking the dog miles, had more energy and started to play Padel tennis.
Unfortunately, I’ve started feeling very flat again so am investigating with GP - think I’m not absorbing very well.

TPJB · 20/11/2024 23:43

Not on hrt and tried all sorts of supplements. It cleared up when I started eating salads every lunchtime with olive oil and vinegar dressing. I
gues it’s the olive oil. Can’t think what else it could be and it comes back if I stop eating it.

My aches and pains are off the scale since stopping HRT due to bleeding . I've been to see a gaenocologist and I'm going back onto patches this time instead of gel . Every joint in my body hurts plus my restless legs are awful again

JinglingSpringbells · 21/11/2024 08:31

Hip pain should be investigated with an X-ray to diagnose or rule out osteoarthritis . There's no cure, obviously, if it is, other than a hip replacement. General aches and pains - worth trying the anti-inflammatory diet which is like the Mediterranean diet. The arthritis charity websites have info. HRT should help as the estrogen helps maintain collagen between joints.

Could you fit in another walk - or split your hour into to half hours?

I'm 70 and been on HRT 75mcg Evorel patches for nearly 20 years. For me reasonably brisk movement is key to feeling well and ache-free. Apart from my hands being a bit stiff first thing I don't have stiffness or aches, unless I've done a 2-hour walk then get a bit of lower back ache. At 55 you're too young to be feeling so bad - if additional movement doesn't help maybe a trip to the GP to discuss HRT dosage.

As an aside, a pp has mentioned olive oil - I have quite a bit in my diet maybe that the elixir of life!

Supersimkin7 · 21/11/2024 08:57

Stop doing yoga and see if that helps - you could be overstretching. Yes, I know that’s annoying advice but a physio insisted I do it and it helped.

Also, take a week off all exercise. You might just be so sore and swollen you need time to heal a bit. We’re constantly told to keep going but there is such a thing as overdoing it. Rest for 7 days and re-measure your pain levels in the main joints.

ThePoshUns · 22/11/2024 09:07

That's good advice @Supersimkin7 .
Sometimes a rest is needed

thorneyislanddoris · 22/11/2024 10:57

Thank you for all your tips. I'll be trying them all. But I think my first stop will be GP to see if we need to adjust my HRT dose.

And to everyone who is in the same boat. You have my sympathies. 🫶

My (sensible!) friend has been raving about nmn supplement for reduction of aches and pains, more energy plus appetite reduction and increase in libido so I have just started them, figured it was worth a try! vivanmn.com/
