Post menopausal bleeding

Has anyone had post menopausal bleeding and it been ok? I'm waiting for a call back from my GP to discuss but after over 2 years without a period I suddenly came on today. I feel so drained and flat today.

Yes. GP referred for urgent ultrasound (was going to examine me first but I asked just to be referred) which showed thickened womb lining. Radiologist referred me to Gynaecologist who gave choice of biopsy there and then or go on waiting list for camera biopsy. I was anxious to get result so got biopsy same day. Results showed no atypical cells so was diagnosed with simple hyperplasia. This causes womb lining cells to grow. It's benign condition treated with progesterone (usually via coil) and / or weight loss.
I called GP at first sign of bleeding but from then to results, despite being fast tracked/ treated as urgent took about 6 weeks as has to wait a couple weeks for ultrasound, then 2 weeks for Gynae, then 2 weeks for result etc. I understand that if my ultrasound hadn't showed thickened womb lining I would have been discharged at that point.
Consultant said post menopausal bleeding shouldn't happen but it does sometimes. Usually benign cause. GP said similar- she sends lots of people for these tests and the results usually come back fine. I confided in only one friend when I was waiting on results and she told me she'd had same thing and same tests which were also fine which I found reassuring.
I had 6 weeks of worry and will likely need hormone treatment and I suppose follow ups. But I see that more as preventative positive treatment.
You're doing right thing getting it checked. Stay away from Dr Google. The only thing that will truly reasure you is medical advice including taking any recommended tests.
I'm no expert but from what I can gather it seems common and OK the vast majority of time. There seems to be good effective treatment every step of way. Try not to do anything that'll increase your worry like consulting Dr Google. Best wishes x

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

You know how normally doctors reassure you when it looks like there may be something scary going on? That didn't happen. My call turned to face to face when I was checked over and I'm on the 2ww pathway.

Hi. I had a post menopausal bleed in 2023, went for the scans and discharged same day.
I had another one on Christmas Day 2024, had my ultrasound on 7th January and am being referred for another one and potentially a biopsy if required, so fingers crossed all will be ok again.

This 2nd time has been a very different (but not bad) experience. Scan on the 7th Jan, only found out today after chasing twice, that I need a follow up. The nurse told me that they’ve had an unusually high number of referrals for this, higher than they’ve ever seen, so are triaging cases. So I guess it’s a positive sign that my case isn’t considered to be urgent?

Hope that your appointment is as quick and painless as my first one was, and that you get the same all clear as me. :)

I had the same. Was referred for internal ultrasound with a gynae, in France. Was told it can happen due to a stray ovum that gets released. Didn't happen again.

I had a bleed after a year. Scan on the pathway . Bloods done and all ok. Just a random “clear out” and possibly my hrt kickstarted things. It seems very common but always good to get it checked.
