Unexpectedly heavy period

I had regular periods up till exactly two years ago. They went heavy, then vanished. People on this forum told me I'd probably gone through the menopause.

They started sporadically again last September, so almost, but not quite, a year. They were very light and scant, and very infrequent (light bleeding every 3-4 months, only noticed when wiping).

I had a slightly more heavy one in April this year, not heavy but needed a liner.

I started HRT (Evorel Sequi) in June, for hot flushes, mood swings, etc.

I read you can get light bleeding during the progesterone weeks, but had none...nada, zilch.

In September a light bleeding, but during oestrogen week. October a moderate 'proper' bleeding, this month a full blown period! Very, very heavy, awful period cramps, spots, pain around kidneys, SPD pain and blood clots.

I'm not sure whether to tell the GP or not as they think I'm post menopausal. I'm 100% certain it's not the hrt as it's not a withdrawal bleeding, it's definitely a period. I'm sure it's normal and nothing to worry about, but everything says to contact your gp for heavy bleeding, which I'd rather not if I can help it.

I'm 54 (55 in a couple of months), my mum had her lmp at 51, my dsis at 49, if that's relevant.

Yes, tell the GP. Anything unusual should be reported, and it sounds like you need a scan.

I actually had a scan in July 2022 (still had periods then, but were heavy), so not sure they will do another.

The findings then were a normal shaped uterus, but bulky.

Uterine fibroids. Poor endometrial-myometrial interface so
not possible to adequately assess endometrium. Heterogeneous in reflectivity.

So my lining couldn't be measured as I assume from that I had/have adenomyosis?

I guess it could be just the adenomyosis and/or fibroids, that has caused this bleeding.

It can be hard (impossible in my case), to assess the endometrium, so I guess that if they'd thought it was sinister they'd have referred me then.

It was only two years ago, I doubt anything sinister could happen in that time?

I also read they'd ask me to stop taking HRT, and it has been a lifesaver for me, so very reluctant to ask. I'm also very, very anxious around doctors, I even discharged myself from my orthopaedic surgeon, as he wanted to do an operation and I'm just too anxious, so would rather only contact them if absolutely necessary.
