Evorel patches not sticking

theDudesmummy · 06/11/2024 21:48

Hi, I have been on Evorel Conti patches for several years. Never any issues. In the last three months or so they have started falling off before the change day. This has happened more than 5 times, have they changed the glue formula? Anyone else having this issue? I just found my latest patch, one day after I applied it, inside my trousers rather than on my thigh. It is really driving me mad. Do I stick to original days, change day or what? Why are they suddenly not sticking? They seem to just dry up and fall off time after time.

Mine are doing exactly the same thing. I haven’t found a solution yet - blasting them with the hairdryer after applying them seems to make them last a bit longer! I read in the leaflet if they come off you’re supposed to just apply a fresh one but still stick to your normal days of changing them - which seems a bit of a waste to me. 🤷‍♀️

I'm having the same issue.
I blast mine with the hair dryer and still end up using medical tape as they lift.

Not to mention if you replace constantly you run out. I'm not on repeat prescription currently and getting a gp appointment is nothing short of a miracle 🙄

Thanks for the replies. I can only conclude that they must have switched to a cheaper glue. I think I will write to the manufacturers, but meanwhile I will try the hairdryer thing. I don't like replacing them a day or two after I have put them on as it means that you are getting an increased dose in the end, I should think. And yes, I keep running out sooner.

PT tape! I use Buprenorphine patches for pain and had the same issue. Now I use Kiniesology tape to keep them on.

Do NOT blast with hairdryer as it 'empties' the patch and you can overdose. They're supposed to be slow release

Do NOT blast with hairdryer! Heat empties the patch out all at once. They're meant to be slow release.

Can’t you stick them with Elastoplast?

VegTrug · 07/11/2024 07:38

Also, if you get irritation from the patch, ask your doctor for Betamethasone scalp application (steroid liquid) and apply to your skin and wait for it to dry before applying your patch. Stops the irritation

MiddleAgedDread · 07/11/2024 07:41

I’m about to change to the gel because of this. Some weeks they stay stuck fine and other times they’re coming off almost daily. I’m sure some boxes are a dodgy batch compared to others. You need to make a
box of spares to replace the ones that fall off and then replace them from the current box still as scheduled. Hence I used to through probably 14-15 boxes in a year.

BeMintBee · 07/11/2024 07:42

I think it can sometime just a problem with a batch. I can go months with no issue and then suddenly they don’t stick at all. I end up finishing the packs too quickly through replacing them and have to phone the surgery for an earlier repeat. Must be a common issue as the receptionist never queries it when I finish the packs too soon

BeMintBee · 07/11/2024 07:45

It’s a pain though because now I always have to take multiple boxes on holiday as I worry I’ll run out if they’re not sticky. Last year I had to replace every time I went in the pool. Ended up going to the pharmacy and buying a waterproof clear film to put over it. Even less attractive than the patch!

VegTrug · 07/11/2024 07:49

Honestly! This stuff is game changing and keeps the patch in place. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09481RJVG/ref=ppxyoodtbbsearchasinn_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

The don't stick. I used Opsite dressings to stick them. Can order a roll on Amazon and then cut to size.

VitaminSubtle · 07/11/2024 07:50

My pharmacist gave me transparent sort of wound dressings to wear over them, which stuck better, but I’ve actually just switched to gel because the crackling was annoying me.

TruthAndTrust · 07/11/2024 08:18

Hopefully just a bad batch as I've always been amazed at how good the stickyness is. I swim for nearly an hour most day and do a physical job so I shower a lot and I've never had an issue with the patches.

My latest batch is a different brand.

EternallyIrked · 07/11/2024 08:29

I have the exact same issue. I bought the "second skin" dressings from Amazon, which the pharmacist recommended but I seem to be allergic to whatever the adhesive is on them. I'm going to ask the GP to change me to something else as it's all just too much faff.

fatandhappyxxx · 07/11/2024 08:32

Yeah interesting I'm having the same problem I thought it was the moisturiser I was using.

Nospringchix · 07/11/2024 22:21

Yeah they seem to vary in how well they stick. Some boxes seem better than others, but it isn't often that one lasts a full 4 days.
