So angry all the time

Age 45 and experiencing a constant feeling of rage. It's making me miserable. I get so angry I burst into tears and it's over the silliest of things. I try to hold it in and keep away from people but it's isolating and miserable. Anyone else had this?

I'm sorry you're feeling so awful. I haven't felt quite that horrible but some of my friends have. Are you on HRT?

3teens2cats · 03/11/2024 06:56

I'm not on hrt, but I am going to book an appointment to discuss it. In general, my peri symptoms have been totally manageable until these awful mood swings and rage started. It feels worse than teenage pmt, and I got put on the pill to stop me just crying all the time back then.

Yep, I understand. HRT should lessen this.

Hey there,
I went/ am going through something similar. Rage and anxiety and terrible brain fog- to the point of thinking I needed to checked for early on set alzheimers. I did some research on the topic, and as where I am there are barriers to HRT I have ended up on high fat diet. There are two rationales for this this- the low carb element reduces inflammation and tackles insulin resistance, and the high fat promotes a good hormone balance. (Female hormones are made in the body from cholesterol, so a low fat diet can result in not enough hormones floating about. Insulin resistance/ high insulin can stop the production of female hormones.)

It works for me.
If you are interested a good place to start is Georgia Ede, she is actually a psychiatrist and recommends a brain healthy diet for mental health, but this way of eating is also great for women with hormone imbalances, because it fixes it.

Best of luck, and hope you find something that works for you.

I’m sorry to hear you are suffering. I would really recommend trying yoga. I do it daily now and have seen a vast improvement in my sense of wellbeing, and my health. I’m your age. (You can look up specific Yoga for Perimenopause on YouTube)

I had total hysterectomy age 38..except for one ovary for my hormones...my gosh l turned into someone else over night.
I was always angry at someone/ something... throwing things around the house... stamping about like a child with a tantrum.
I always called it the mental pause.
GP said because l had one ovary l was getting my hormones, so didn't need HRT..
I was already on antidepressants.
This went on for five years.. when l went into hospital for a large cyst on that ovary.. it was a dermoid cyst with teeth.. bones and hair and huge.
Had it removed and went onto HRT.
Overnight l was a different person.. back to my " normal" self. It really was a miracle medication.
My hair ..nails and skin were gorgeous.. my mood was happy and sunny.
My libido went through the roof lol.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I am pleased it's 'a thing' and not just me. I am going to try and discuss this with gp I just didn't know whether I would be having to have bad physical symptoms to be taken seriously?

When I saw my GP and said to him that I wanted to go on HRT, but that obviously I wasn't expecting it to be life changing, he said to me "I don't know, it really can be life changing for some women". So why not give it a try? I hope this thread has made you feel a bit more like you're not alone.

we women spend a good part of our lives swimming in a sea of hormones that makes us .feel things like "I'm sure they didn't mean it like that". "They probably are having a bad time else where in their life, so I'll let it slide" and all the myriad reasons why women make excuses for bad behaviour. It's got a biological cause I think. After all,we are the ones, in the main, that raise the most irrational of people, toddlers 😁.

But when hormones leave our system, we see life, and the people in it, as they really are, and we are understandably angry.

It's ok, it's fine to be angry. You are just not used to it yet. You will get used to it and you'll learn where and when to expend your anger in order to get a desired change.

Meantime, I'd suggest you try to sit with, and examine that anger and try to find out what it is, exactly that's making you angry

Try breathing exercises. It reduces tension and anxiety.

BigDahliaFan · 13/11/2024 19:40

I honestly nearly killed my husband, I can't remember what he said, but I had a heavy frying pan in my hand. The Rage. It was at work too and with friends...

HRT sorted me out....I had might sweats too as a symptom but honestly I think if you read the menopause symptoms you may have more than one...

Don't get fobbed off.go armed with information. I just said that can't happen again. I'm off hrt now at 56, and it's all gone pretty much now. You do get past it all.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/11/2024 19:45

Lack of libido
Increased urinary frequency
Waking at night for the loo
Urge incontinence
Sore vulva and vagina
Dry skin
Skin sensitivity
Itchy skin
Dry hair
Thinning hair
Increased episodes of thrush
Insomnia
Waking early
Night sweats
Hot flushes
Cold flushes
Increased sweating
Palpitations unrelated to anxiety
General lack of motivation
General low mood
Electric shocks
Tinnitus
