42 years old and on Evorel 100 patch twice a week. No symptoms except vagina dryness which is causing me a lot of discomfort.

Anyone uses vagifem or similar?

Better to use vaginal oestrogen or up the Evorel patch ? Thanks.

I use Dr Wolf’s V San cream. Dryness, itching, prickling and general discomfort was driving me mad before. This works really well.

If you don't have other symptoms then I'd use vaginal oestrogen to tackle the dryness. You can use it with your patches, very little is absorbed into the body from the vaginal cream it just works on the vaginal tissues.

You can use both as the Vagifem is directly supporting your genitourinary system. You may be more prone to UTIs after a total hysterectomy and this is why Vagifem is used. I use one every other day. They are tiny, are inserted high with an applicator and don't cause any mess. You may still want to use a lube.

Thanks , I think I will try both as you say. Will go to the GP for the oestrogen cream and I saw that the other recommended cream is available all over.

I never thought I would be asking for advice for this problem !

Vagifem, loading dose for a couple of weeks and the twice weekly. You can rub some on externally too. Consider getting testosterone too when you are given the topical estrogen a good go too.

AutumnCrow · 26/10/2024 19:23

I am prescribed Estriol 1mg/g cream, fomerly known as Ovestin, alongside oestrogen gel.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I am cautious about using testosterone as i used to have greasy hair which I had to wash everyday and facial hair that I was always waxing etc and these issues have resolved since I had the operation, I guess they were due to polycystic ovaries, so I don’t want those things to return.

The Estriol is vaginal. It comes with an applicator, or you can do without.

I use Sandrena gel as transdermal oestrogen, and rub it into thighs/hips/bum daily. I'm on 1.5 which is equivalent to Evorel 50-75 but may need to increase that. (I'm also post surgical menopause.)

Thanks for replying, think I will try the oestrogen cream.

How have you found the surgical menopause ? Once I started on the patches all symptoms I had after the surgery resolved, it is just this vaginal problem which isn’t getting any better.

I'm also surgical menopause, and I use Sandrena gel, plus 2/week vaginal oestrogen pessary. Then as-and-when I use some oestrogen cream, although I'm needing/using that less and less as I get my oestrogen levels sorted out.
