Hi,

I have various perimenopause symptoms, one of which is smellier armpits 🙁. Can any of you recommend a deodorant or shower gel that works well, isn’t an antiperspirant and doesn’t cost a fortune please (Green People want around £15 a pop for a prebiotic deodorant 😱)?

thanks in advance!

I don't use shower gel, I use Savon de Marseille soap and Dove deodorant. Mitchum is meant to be good.

Soap for armpits (not dove, proper soap)
You can use glycolic acid after showering too, just wipe it on

HelloYouGuys · 16/10/2024 02:07

I buy the "Wild" refills...roughly £6 last time I was in the supermarket.
I use this after I've washed my pits with bicarb of soda...
I also find this method works well for under my well endowed breasts, especially as I've stopped using a bra as much a possible.

Dyslexiateacherpost88 · 16/10/2024 02:32

Why not antiperspirant? Mitchum is brilliant.

Another vote for proper bars of soap I like the triple milled ones and pick them up in Tk-max. Deodorant wise I use Fussy didn’t get on with wild deodorant.

averitablevampire · 16/10/2024 09:24

I've yet to find a deodorant which can cope with perimenopausal sweats! Antiperspirant all the way, and even then it's not 100% effective.
Soap is fine for about an hour, but it's hopeless if I get a proper sweat on.
Never had a stink issue until perimenopause, if I find anything useful I'll come back and let you know, unfortunately I have sensitive pits, so quite a number of anti-stink stuff I can't use😳.

Ladymuck2022 · 16/10/2024 22:53

Wild or Fussy (fussy have menopause accreditation)
Dove deodorant use to be my go to before last summer but then I wanted to go eco/plastic friendly.

Some of the wild refills purchased a year ago have lost their scent. (If not used in the shortest of time)

I’m not really a fussy customer but they have the meno accreditation.

Mitchum roll on and spray.

ExitPursuedByABare · 16/10/2024 23:09

Mitchum. I use the roll on. Then a spray of the deodorant.

offyoujollywelltrot · 16/10/2024 23:10

I use mens mitchum, only thing that keeps my pits in check.

TokyoSushi · 16/10/2024 23:12

I use bar soap and then the Dove or Sure 'cream' roll on, the one in the box that is about £5 (but usually on offer) - problem has completely disappeared!

I've always had strong BO and definitely going into menopause it changed, probably due to rise in body temp and hormonal challenges. I managed it very well previously, pre-menopause, with Mitchum roll on and scrupulous daily hygiene.

I stopped using Mitchum about a month ago as I felt the formula had changed (or I had!) and it left me feeling sticky and I started to get BO at the end of the day, which I hadn't had for years (have used it for a very long time and would always champion it on here).
Found Salt of The Earth deo stick in the health food shop and it works! No BO, no stickiness and no yucky after fragrance sticking to my clothes. I will continue with it and really hoping it stays true through the summer but time will tell. It doesn't sting so I can use it straight after shaving too. No white marks. And bonus points as it's a "natural" eco friendlier product. Apparently the salt in it acts like a barrier against bacteria or something like that. Whatever, it does the job.

Definitely agree with most on here though, you need a proper soap to wash your pits as shower gel just isn't up to the job. I use Palmolive and happy to recommend that.

WhiteNegroni · 16/10/2024 23:46

Bar soap - basic one like Imperial Leather or Tesco Extracts Lemon - and Vichy roll-on. Salt of the Earth as sugggested by PP also works well but is a bit more scented, whereas Vichy is good if you also wear perfume.

I thought I had another Mitchum roll on left, but I didn't, so I went to buy a new one (online shopping because I fucking hate shopping). Salt of the Earth came up and it was a couple of quid extra, but Mitchim was £4 and I thought fuck it, and got a Salt of the Earth instead. I've been out with the dog and I always get hot and sticky, so when I got home I did a pit sniff (very classy I know).

Completely odour free. I'm definitely impressed, and one of these is supposed to last months!

I don't know why I'm so excited over this.

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 19/10/2024 04:37

Mitchum and men's sure cool. It's blue with silver and called ice cool or something. Everything else fails me after a few hours.

Hey there! I totally get the struggle with perimenopause symptoms, and finding a good deodorant can be tricky. I've heard great things about Salt of the Earth's natural deodorant – it's affordable, lasts ages, and doesn't contain antiperspirants. Also, Dr. Organic Tea Tree shower gel is pretty decent for keeping things fresh without being too pricey. Hope that helps!"

SoapCollector · 30/10/2024 00:07

Hi, definitely try a proper bar soap instead of shower gel.
I'm sensitive to some deodorants with bicarbonate of soda as an ingredient but I seem to get on ok and no irritation using Wild deodorant. Think it must depend on how much bicarb is in the product. I tried salt of the earth crystal deodorant, it worked really well but found it a bit of a faff remembering to put it on wet/ damp skin.
