50, no period for 3 years but no other symptoms?

Just that really. I missed one period in 2020. Then I had regular periods until a year later, when I lost a lot of weight through dieting (10 stone) and my periods suddenly stopped again and never came back.

3 years later - no period since 2021 and no other symptoms.

I have no idea if I’m post menopausal. Should I know this? Do I need blood tests? Where are the night sweats and all the other expected symptoms? Will they show up in the future?

Lucky you!
seriously, yes at 50 you are likely to be post menopause. Different people have different symptoms though many are similar but it’s also possible that if you haven’t experienced them by now you are not going to. Everyone talks about the hot sweats etc but there are more subtle symptoms such as hair thinning or vaginal atrophy.
A blood test isn’t needed but perhaps a chat with a nurse practitioner may be helpful. Most symptoms start well before your periods stop.

I don’t know apparently in Suffolk and Essex, no blood tests needed.
Lost 12lb first week of diet in 2022 smaller today feel fat and frumpy heading swiftly towards anaemic but I’m sure it will all be ok. We’ve had the disappearing periods to those carrying on 10 days every 2 weeks. It is sheer bliss and what another 8/9 years if unlucky spent like this.

Yet an old friend same age in Leicester peed on home stick for meno as positive found herself disbelieved and off she goes for blood tests on nhs. Where are my results?

Sadly not the same ball game consistent throughout the UK.

I would say yes, in all likelihood you're done. Not everyone has issues, despite what Davina would like us to believe.

I‘m 51 and my periods just stopped last year. I won’t count my chickens yet but keeping my fingers crossed. No symptoms at all yet unless you count my barren field of fucks.

Probably menopause at 50 but the 10 stone weight loss may well have contributed, did you lose it very quickly?

I would just see how you go, no need for blood tests. Some women manage fine in peri and post meno initially as hormones fluctuate it can be years down the line that things like joint pain and vaginal atrophy shows up.

Just pay attention to reducing caffeine and alcohol and have plenty of physical activity to promote good sleep and mood.

Why are people so angsty about Davina?

Yes some women won’t have symptoms- I think it’s about 10-15%. They are very lucky.

The rest of us will be on a spectrum as to how manageable they are from a little bit of a nuisance to full on debilitating symptoms impacting every part of your life.

Thanks goodness people are speaking out. Most people weren’t even aware of perimenopause even a few years ago.

But still women are denied help. Being one of the lucky ones doesn’t mean Davina is wrong to talk about it.

And like the poster above said many women can appear to sail through it but you have no idea what is going on inside you with your bones or how you’ll feel 5-10 years down the line.
