Do nothing at Menopause?

I believe I'm perimenopausal and I just wondered what happens if you literally do nothing about the menopause? Is it safe? You see some horror stories and it's giving me anxiety (which is probably peri anyway lol)...

I hardly noticed mine. I had a few (not many) sleepless nights because of night sweats, and a few hot flushes during the day. Joint pain in the mornings which I ignored - got better as I moved around. I had a couple of issues with flooding which were pretty distressing but never got around to going to GP.

10 years on and I'm in great health. I know I'm very lucky.

Did the joint pain go away?

@000EverybodyLovesTheSunshine000 I had joint pain in my hips on and off for a couple of years during peri. They're completely fine now and at 63 I run 5k a couple of times a week (and just to add I'm not on HRT). I found peri far worse than post menopause and love not having periods - it's very liberating!

I don’t understand how we are happy to dish out contraceptive pills to girls 16 + many, like me stay on it for 20
years.

But a little top up with body identical hormones to replace what we’ve lost. And it’s ’unhealthy’ and we’re ‘medicalising’ menopause.

That post is quite thought provoking actually. I didn't get on with the contraceptive pill so was anxious about HRT. You gave me the confidence to take the HRT which I had, but hadn't started.
I mean you're right, it's just topping up a few hormones, and hopefully staving off some nasty health issues for the future ( we have dementia, heart disease and osteoporosis in our family. Possibly because they've been a long lived bunch) Happy to 'medicalise' those away, if possible.

I have hip pain post menopause, so am doing some targeted exercises. Hoping hrt also helps. I would love to run again!

I had cancer at the exact same time as the menopause, as such, I was not able to take HRT etc. The cancer drug exacerbated the meno symptoms for around 5 years. I had to suck it up but got through it. I do think that there is now almost too much scaremongering going on..

Hope it works well for you. I feel so much better on it.

It’s almost as though we have to be our own advocates as many GPs do not have specialised knowledge. I spent a year or so doing lots of research and I do believe for most people the benefits of HRT far outweigh any (small) risks.

It’s fine if people don’t feel that they need it but also I feel there’s a lot going on inside that we don’t know about when we lose these hormones.

I would be worried about my bones if I didn't have HRT as my Mom didn't do HRT and has severe osteoporosis
