I’m late 40s.
on hrt. One of my many moans - sleep!
I can’t sleep at night, no idea why not. Toss turn, have ear plugs, eye mask. Wake at any sound.

then all day I feel groggy 🥴 feel like I need to sleep.

this so frustrating. Anyone else? Hoping this isn’t my permanent sleep wake cycle now…?😅

Hi im a newbie. So im 56 and been in full menopause after a total hysterectomy at 39. I started HRT after 6 months because the symptoms were awful, been on patches which suit me but since changing my dose from 100 to 75 a week ago my sleep has been awful, waking up nearly every hour! Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks x

GildedRage · 03/10/2024 18:44

have you tried magnesium supplements, ashwagandha, or melatonin.
magnesium has been a game changer for me.

Ahumanjellyfish · 03/10/2024 18:48

Gilded rage - thanks ! I brought melatonin when in Spain but been too afraid to try! I have a general multivitamin with magnesium, not sure if that counts 🤷 def going to try I’m desperate

Yes I’ve tried magnesium tablets and magnesium bath soak.

TeamPolin · 03/10/2024 18:48

Magnesium tablets have helped me. Still have some bad nights but getting enough good nights to function.

Hi Fleur,

I’m waking 2-4 hourly (I think) i haven’t changed my hrt dose though- I don’t feel hot so no idea why I’m waking.

Do you think you need to increase your dose again?

Well im going to give it another few days and maybe get in touch with Gp, I think my body has been used to 100 mg for so long and now reduced to 75 that it’s a side effect, don’t know if to give it longer??

GildedRage · 03/10/2024 19:21

i had to spend a bit of time on the internet to find the right type of magnesium supplement and dosage. dr mary claire haver had a you tube video on this (american dr who specializes in menopause).
i'm in canada and costco sells melatonin, if and when you try it you might be underwhelmed...it doesn't put you to sleep right away but once you fall asleep it's said to help with a deeper sleep.

Fleur7 · 03/10/2024 19:23

Hi I’m in UK and unfortunately we can’t buy melatonin here☹️

catwithflowers · 03/10/2024 19:28

I'm post menopause but have suffered from insomnia for many years. If I have an especially bad night I take promethazine the next evening and sleep like a log. I use it maybe once or twice a week.

It's available at Boots without prescription and the brand name is Phenergan. It's a medication used mostly for allergies and travel sickness but a well known side effect is that it helps sleep. And importantly it's non-addictive

veritasverity · 03/10/2024 19:35

Yes perimenopause, some nights I just can't get off to sleep (definitely can't have any caffeine drinks after midday), and even then sometimes I just can't get to sleep, other times I get off to sleep, sleep for three or four hours, then wake, drop off again about 30 mins before the alarm goes off. Because I'm so tired during the day, I crave sugary shit.

Hello. Are you a coffee drinker? Have you tried changing your diet to manage insomnia? Magnesium supplements, chamomile tea, and lukewarm baths are good. But if these natural treatments won't work, a doctor's consultation is necessary.

I’m actually a huge coffee drinker - always have been and probably in a catch 22, thought I never have coffee (caffeinated) after 12. I will have decaf in the afternoon.

I get mine from piping rock website takes five days from America

Sharpkat · 03/10/2024 22:07

Magnesium glycinate has made a huge difference for me combined with HRT. Have gone from 2-4 hours a night to a solid 7-8 hours. I genuinely feel like I have learnt to sleep again.

No I don’t drink tea or coffee just herbal teas.

Wellingtonone · 04/10/2024 12:34

Just out of interest why did you decrease it?

Fleur7 · 04/10/2024 17:00

Hi, I didn’t decrease it my consultant did, she said I’d been on that amount for a while and wanted to take it to 75.

DustyLee123 · 05/10/2024 12:48

I now don’t drink caffeine after 12md, I don’t consume dairy after my evening meal, I always go to bed at 10 and read a book, and I take magnesium glycinate.
