Stress management.

I have a much more stressful life than average and am going through perimenopause. I suspect it all contributes. I think I am experiencing physical symptoms of stress - brain fog, strange feeling on top of head, tired, irritable, generally wound up.

HRT isn't an option. I'm thinking of taking some diazepam to see if that helps (one dose, I'm not a medication taking person generally. The last box of 20 expired with 19 still in it).

I did take citalopram for a year about three years ago. It did help. Downside was negative sexual side effects but it's not like there's much of that going on to worry about really, so maybe that shouldn't be a factor. Maybe I should see if that helps?

I do have plenty of activities and exercise that should help but there's still that edge.

Anyone else been there and found something that helped? Any advice?

I had depression before (managed through monthly counseling). The doctor said she could give me anti-depressants but prompted me to try natural treatment processes. Journaling and CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) work on me (even now). Exercises like walking and swimming were also recommended but I'm a couch potato and don't know how to swim, so they were not applicable. But I do light stretching and cardio at home to manage my weight. These approaches are not a one-night process for me. My progress is on and off. Luckily, my doctor checks on me weekly so, that's a good push on me. HRT is like a taboo in my country and most doctors would rather prescribe you tons of medications than assess your situation. See your healthcare provider first and have yourself evaluated. It's good to figure out what stems from your stressful life. Mine is emotional childhood trauma and bullying that resulted in anxiety. Best of luck and virtual hugs OP.

Thanks for your response. There's not much I can do about the stresses I deal with daily, I just have to cope as best I can. Journalling would be a good idea. I might start doing that. Then I have somewhere to let it out.
