Legs CONSTANTLY aching - should I try HRT?

It doesn't sound much but it's really getting me down - feel like all movement is painful effort. Background - I'm 56 and following a blood test 18 months ago was told I'm now post menopausal...so why has this suddenly got so much worse?? I've read that it could be connected to hormone levels.

Anyone?!?

Have you tried magnesium first?

Alwayssomething14 · 23/09/2024 21:02

I posted about aching hands and feet a few days back and someone said it could be low vitamin D. That was the only response I had though so I've just posted again in general health and one lady has said HRT helped with hers. My legs ache too and my arms and elbows 😞 I'm 43 and blood tests are in normal range. I have a phone consultation with GP later this week. I hope you get some answers 💐

I am post menopause, but found that my leg ache was due to ezetemibe... a statin alternative.

If you are on any medications I would investigate those first.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/09/2024 21:09

If I were you, I would start taking Magnesium Glycinate.

Blood tests aren't used to diagnose peri-menopause. If you can, I highly recommend going to a private clinic. I would also start taking Magnesium Glycinate.

Things that could help

magnesium
vit d
iron

investigate HRT
get your thyroid levels checked and full blood count with inflammatory markers to check for autoimmune diseases

soupfiend · 23/09/2024 21:22

Blood tests would only really be effective if you took a test every day for your cycle one month, not viable and not what anywhere does. even private tests

If you're 43 and you're getting symptoms of peri menopause its likely it is peri menopause, that period of time can last for about 10 years, sometimes more.

Thanks all - I've been taking both magnesium and vitamin D for some time. Is magnesium glycinate different?

Horse chestnut supplement is brilliant for aching legs.

Giving up sugar helps mine

I started bioglan active magnesium tablets 375mg high strength. About £16 for four months worth, so only £1 a week. Totally with it.

I'd been on other magnesium but no difference in my leg cramps until I used the Bioglan. It has four types of magnesium. Maybe that's why it helped as I'd used one I didn't need and not the one I did need!!

I find support stockings help when I’m sleeping. Or flight socks.
