Aching hips - perimenopause?

I’m 40 and have been experiencing aching hips for the past 6 months or so and wondered if it could be a symptom of perimenopause. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you treat it?

It’s a symptom of my peri meno. Chondroitin and glucosamine tablets helped before I went on HRT.

I suffered quite a lot with various aches and pains and fatigue - I’ve had several blood tests over the last few years but this year they finally decided to test my Vit D levels - absolutely on the floor. Supplements have sorted out most of what I thought was just the side effects of menopause. I’m already on B12 injections too as that was also scarily low. So it’s worth getting checked.

Are you overweight? If so most likely your hips are feeling the pressure of the last few decades. Act now if you want a pain-free middle/old age.

No, I have a healthy BMI.

Yes! I went on HRT for other reasons but within a week my back and hip pain were gone. I was annoyed I didn’t know earlier as I’d spent a fortune on physio and Pilates.

Yes. I have hip pain from arthritis anyways but it was very different to the deep ache I got in my knees and hips from peri. HRT got rid of it though!

Voltarol gel. Made a self referral to nhs physio, got some exercise’s to do, they would have booked me in.

Pain on purely left side couple of weeks ago - agony let it ruin 2 days of plans, I exercise everyday through it, have a rise and recliner bed.

Taking HRT just helped heavy legs.

I'm 43, got very bad hip pain for many years. Turns out to be arthritis and a prolapsed disc in my back pressing on nerves. Your GP can test your hormones and I think you can self refer to physiotherapy on the NHS.

Oh my goodness, I thought this was just me - my hips have been hell the last couple of years and although I’ve had physio, take supplements, walk a lot, not overweight and do Pilates for hips it’s done fa. Can’t take HRT so will watch this with interest.

I stopped eating bread and most of my hip pain disappeared. I've also cut out most rice, pasta and potatoes so am losing weight finally which helps walking better and faster.
By far the most obvious difference is the lack of pain which kicks in immediately I stop the toast or crumpets for breakfast.

I’m 51 and in perimenopause, hurtling towards full meno. Achy hips have been one of my symptoms for several years, particularly my left one. I’m on HRT, and am not a heavy build, but my hips still ache, particularly after I’ve been on my feet for a while. Some of my other joints are starting to ache too, so I’ve got a review appointment for my HRT with the GP on Wednesday.

whoopdeedoo · 25/09/2024 11:57

Yes, various joints ached. Knees and later one hip particularly badly..HRT got rid of it almost immediately, I should have gone on it years before I did, would have avoided a lot of suffering with plantar fasciitis, knee and wrist pain and the hip issue, all of which preceded more immediately identifiable peri symptoms like sleep issues and hot flushes that arrived at around 48 and prompted me to seek HRT.
