Has anyone taken this and it stopped their periods? If so how do you take it? Currently on the combined patches and my periods are getting worse and worse which isn't ideal as I have endometriosis. I really didn't get on with the coil and I'm reluctant to try it again until I've exhausted all other options

Yes I take this continuous labelled though as progesterone. A golden colour soft capsule.

It has honestly been the only thing to reduce the effect I felt of a fibroid after 18 months going round the houses.

I bled daily a lot more then monthly with a coil, now convinced that coil went in wrong time of life I got it removed and aside from a very long period initially after removal no more bleeds. I did read you can still get phantom periods pains but honestly I feel it is tackling the fibroid and that you can’t stop early menopause.

@Ladymuck2022 thanks for your reply. Did you have any bleeding at all once you started? Do you have any side effects?

I’m on that along with 2 pumps of gel. It has stopped my periods mostly, although I have had the occasional bleed but I did read somewhere it can take a year or so to settle down.

I think you have to be post meno or over 54 to take it continuously though..

As for side effects I think the mood roller coaster has improved since being on it and most other symptoms are better too.

tigertummy · 18/09/2024 06:17

@HelloDaisy are you taking it continuously?

I’ve taken it continuously before the age of 54 and my periods had dwindled down to almost none for a year. I have to say I wasn’t directed to take it any other way. Had the occasional breakthrough bleed for half a day or so. However after a stressful period of both parents dying within a year I did have significant bleeding, went on the 2ww process and all was fine. Bleeding stopped.

I’m also on Oestrogel and testosterone gel.

I'm not sure what you're asking.
No form of progesterone will stop your natural periods except the Mirena coil.

Combined continuous HRT is for women who are already post menopause (no natural periods for 12 months or over age 54.)

Until then, the regimen is cyclical which gives a withdrawal bleed every month.

The progestin in patches is stronger than micronised progesterone. So if you're getting a lot of bleeding now, it's not going to make any difference unless you use double the dose of 200mgs every day (which may help) and you might need a specialist to prescribe that unless your GP is willing.

The bleeding is because the estrogen is making your womb lining thicker. One way to prevent this is to reduce the patch dose. So if you're on a 50mcg patch you could swap to 37 or 25mcg.

As you're having natural periods you're not ready for a continuous regimen (progesterone daily) as it won't be a large enough dose to control the bleeding - you've still got your own estrogen circulating as well as the HRT estrogen.

Maybe you can be referred to a specialist as you have endo - or if you can, pay for a private consultation. It needs 'tweaking' and there are other combinations you could try like gel and separate progestins.

Thanks @Netaporter that's glass to know!

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells I think you're right. I need to speak to a specialist. Before being in peri I was on the mini pill which stopped my periods so I'm hoping there is an option
