As you approached menopause how did your periods act?

I was 51 in March and although I had a uterine ablation back in 2022 I still have a very light bleed every month so can still track my cycle.

I have been having a period every month, approx every 28 days.

However, I have just had a period and had no bleeding, although I still had period pain (my ablation actually failed 6 months after so I've experienced very painful periods since the procedure). So like I say, no actual bleeding this time but pain and bowel issues which I always have as I have IBS so pretty sure I have still menstruated.

I am wondering if this could be the start of my transition from peri to menopause? Things are complicated as I was diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis back in December and now on a long wait for a laparoscopy and have been advised not to take hrt because it could exacerbate the gynae complications and because my mother has an oestrogen sensitive breast cancer.

Did you periods just get lighter until they eventually stopped? What a actually happens to most women?

Mine got heavier and closer together, then I got anaemic so I had a Mirena coil

I dont think there is one answer for this, everybody is different. Its more just a change to your usual cycle I think.
I was always pretty light so mine stayed the same, just got further apart.
