Coughing up blood caused by HRT

I've had a problem since my early 20s, where my throat gets tight and painful, I can feel a lump and cough, then it pops and I splatter blood all over the place.

I've been to hospital with it, A&E once thought it was a blood clot.

Then I was blamed by doctors as I had bulimia and that had caused it. I haven't made myself sick since the 1996.

I've had two endoscopies. First in 1996, which discovered I had a vein in my oesophagus that "was prone to bleeding", second in 2004, which showed I also had a hiatus hernia.

I've never really believed any of these, as it's my throat. I've had Omeprazole for years, but it never helped and I'd still 'randomly get it.

I finally cottoned on to the fact it happened only a day or two before my period. Doctors said this wasn't possible, they theorised it could be inhalers for asthma or nasal polyps, but that does not fit with the timings.

I've been on HRT for a couple of months - Evorel Sequi.

I'm great with the oestrogen phase, but the progesterone turns me into a monster - seriously my poor family, the swearing, leaving, etc has been awful (to top it all I have bipolar so it's attributed to that).

I get too tired, itchy legs (which I used to get before a period).

I'm almost 100% certain that it's a blood blister in my throat (I've had a few in my mouth and this feels the same, lump, pops then bleeds, then sore).

What makes me sure it's progesterone, is it happened a month ago today as well as today, just at the end of the progesterone period, when my symptoms are worse.

Has anyone else had oral/throat blood blisters caused by progesterone?

This may sound weird but has anyone suggested you may have endometriosis? This is when the womb lining grows elsewhere in the body.

I've never heard of it being in the throat but it's something to consider as it's happening at the same time as a period.

Ask to be referred to a gynae who is experienced in endo?

No one has suggested that, doctors seem to dismiss it could be hormone related at all (despite me noting it happened only around menstruation and now with the last week of progesterone patches on HRT), something to think about and chat to the GP about. Thank you Flowers

I have something called Angina Bullosa Haemorraghica with a quick google tells me can happen in the throat as well as the roof of the mouth. I immediately thought of it when I read your post. Not a lot of doctors are aware of it but your dentist should be. I was referred to a maxilla facial department but they didn’t do anything. Just wondering if you are asthmatic and use inhalers as that can be a cause. It’s not dangerous just unpleasant.
