Evorel patches

yasminandtheredrose · 06/09/2024 13:50

Please can someone explain?
I've just started Evorel 50 patches. I'm on my second patch so far and after the other two I switch to the conti patch.
My question is...
Do I take a week break for a period or do I use them continuously?
Will I still have a bleed if I have to take continuous?
Thanks for any replies in advance

Yes you use them continuously.may take a while to settle period wise but generally my period starts a day or two after I start a new pack and put on a 50.

Might not be the same for everyone but I also hit a bit of a slump on the Conti patches. It’s levelled out a bit now but initially it was a pattern of feeling great on the 50 and then shite for two weeks on the Conti. You may be fine but just to forewarn as it took me a bit by surprise!

You use them continously. The first two weeks of patches are estrogen only, the next two weeks also contain progesterone. You'll likely get a bleed at some point either in the last week of patches, or the first week of the new cycle of patches. Just keep going with the patches, even if it feels the bleeding is out of sync.

After 3 months, if it is still out of sync, see your GP as you may need a different regime (I'm on 75mg patches and take progesterone as a tablet instead).

It's the norethisterone as a progestogen. If you still feel naff after a few months, it's worth seeing your GP for a tweak to your regime.

There are various options, and whilst many women get on fine with the first regime offered to them, if you don't then it doesn't mean HRT isn't for you, just that you haven't found what works best for your body.

Thank you for this. I think I will go back to the GP as I literally feel the change in mood within a couple of hours of changing over. It’s like all the energy and positivity draining out my body and refilling with irritation and rage 🤣

WhatsitWiggle · 06/09/2024 16:12

@BeMintBee that sounds exactly like progesterone intolerance. Norethisterone is a synthetic progestogen, and some women are more sensitive to it than others (I'm one of them).

My own regime now is estrogen-only patches (I was taking the gel for a while but stopped being able to absorb it quite so well), and utrogestan tablets for half the cycle. Utrogestan is a body-identical progestogen derived from yams and generally is tolerated a lot better.

Not quite as convenient as just slapping a patch on, but I'm a much nicer person 😆

His long did this last for - I've just stopped them after 5 months for this exact reason

I’ve been on it for 12 months and to be honest it hasn’t really improved but the two weeks on the 50 patches I’ve felt great so tolerated it. To be honest though I’m not really getting that on the 50 patches for the last couple of months either so really need to go and get it all tweaked

@MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly did your peri symptoms improve on the estrogen only weeks? If so, please go back to your GP and ask for a different progesterone option. There have been various shortages over the last couple of years, so GPs have been a bit more limited in the options they can offer, but that's easing / eased now, so if your overall regime isn't working, ask for a different option. And if 50mg estrogen isn't enough, mention that too - I'm on 75mg now, after some of my symptoms returned after 3 years on 50mg. Don't give up entirely without trying something different first.

Yes, my 2 weeks on oestrogen were great. Good advice, I will go back, I can't face living with the brain fog and itching again!
