Does this sounds like a hot flush ?

Yesterday my face when bright red and I just felt dizzy and a bit panicky. Last night went to bed and woke up feeling like my body was on fire from inside ! Was coming in waves and again felt sick and dizzy ( even when lying down ) and really dry mouth
I’ve had symptoms over the last few years ( periods coming when they feel like it and bad anxiety) but this was so intense.

Could well be. The going red in the face, yes, and my hot flushes feel like I have a kettle element inside me heating me up. They don't tend to make me feel sick or dizzy though...

pocketrockett · 27/08/2024 14:33

I got these when I was taking ivf drugs. They come on seemingly from my inside and they peak and then melt away. Horrible things

My mother experienced (minus the bright red face). At night, she would blast the AC and fan, and still complained that it felt burning inside her. Because of this, she unknowingly became grumpy towards my father and would return to her original attitude when not bothered by hot flashes.

Daytime hot flushes followed by good old night sweats with a 3am cortisol rush... ( nausea, dizzy, deep anxiety) yep ... had a couple of years of that, it is no bloomin joke.

Yes, without a doubt.

If they disturb your quality of life and sleep it might be time to consider HRT.

How old are you?

This is the first time it’s woken me up like this . Have sometimes woken in a cold sweat which I’ve always assumed was the end of one .
Im 48 so perfect age for it, unfortunately have the worst doctors that say I’m too young ! (Have given me a blood test and a scan which have come back fine , I know they shouldn’t be going on blood tests but honestly it’s like banging my head against a brick wall )
I have medication for the anxiety which is working well.

Does the cortisol rush feel a rush of warm energy? I’ve been having something similar for a few years when I’m awake

I believe you can feel it like that, but mine is more a jittery but "heavy" feeling, a bit nervous and increased heart rate... followed by hot sweats (or power surges as my mum used to call them)]

invisiblecat · 30/08/2024 21:29

Yes, probably.

My hot flushes can make me feel a bit weird, which is why I never wear a coat in the car, even in the middle of winter. If I had a mega hot flush in a big winter coat, it would make me feel quite faint and that's not good when you're driving.

Your GPs sound very out of touch. Have they not read the NICE meno guidance out in 2015?

You don't need blood tests or a scan- what a waste of NHS money.
How can they say too young at 48?
The age of menopause (POST menopause) is 45-55 so 48 is not too young for hot flushes and sweats.

Peri meno is based on symptoms at your age.

Forget looking for other 'reasons' like cortisol etc.
This is classic peri menopause.

Aren't you willing to challenge your GP?
You also possibly don't need anti depressants.
These are still being handed out like sweets by far too many GPs for women whose symptoms are loss of estrogen - so that's the treatment they ought to have.

NICE says that GPs are not to use ADs for anxiety etc in peri menopause and to prescribe HRT instead.

Maybe do a bit of reading around this- the NICE meno guidance, the Balance website and go back to see your GP or change to another practice?

I’m going to make another appointment this week and see what they say . I’ve never had a period like this feel dizzy again today .
There were other factors to do with the anxiety (grief and stress) so I’m quite hesitant to change these. ( on a very low dose )

Rather than waiting to see what they say, you could go in and say you want HRT.
It's not their choice!

If you have symptoms and no medical contraindications, they have to come up with medical reasons not to prescribe.

Print off the NICE guidance and take it with you.
