Drenching sweats in the day

Just to start by saying I’m 43 and have dysautonomia which can affect how my body controls temperature.

However the last 3 months, very out of character for me, I’m getting terrible sweats in the day to the point sweat is dripping down my back (I know, nice!!) and I have to change my clothes. It lasts ages too, can be 1/2 hour at least. My understanding was hot flashes were over in a few minutes. Something definitely triggers it - can be eating a warm meal, being a bit stressed etc. No night sweats though - I thought this would go alongside the day sweats. I’m also generally just warmer than usual for me, and hotter than others around me.

im going to the GP next week but does this sounds like peri menopause? My mum only had me at this age, so i thought it would be later for me too.

thanks all.

Possibly. If that’s your only symptom, low dose paroxetine stopped mine almost instantly.
Unfortunately lots of GPs still don’t know about this treatment option. If yours is one of them, please refer them to the Liverpool Womens’s hospital study.

Thanks, I think its my only symptom - its hard to tell what’s what as i live with a host of chronic illnesses as well as the coil. My GP is usually quite on the ball so I’ll see what she says, thanks again.

This was exactly how my peri showed up (I stopped producing oestrogen completely aged 37 due to autoimmune issues). I didn’t have any night sweats at that point, just the day time sweat fests. HRT completely stopped it for me - but unfortunately I had to stop HRT for lupus related reasons a few years on (heavy bleeding, had many tests and consultations etc). If you can take HRT definitely give it a try.

It used to happen to me. Not long after getting up in the morning I'd take the dog for an early walk and would have sweat trickling down my back when I got back, even in freezing temperatures in the winter I'd feel hot, but be cold to touch, clammy and sweating. A really weird feeling.
I could walk for miles any other time of day and this not happen & it was really confusing me, but once on Hrt it never happened again so hormones were obviously the cause.

It doesn't matter you are 43. Women start peri at all ages and although 43 is on the younger side it's not that unusual.

You shouldn't be taking any of the alternatives to HRT (like a drug a PP mentioned here) because they are really only for women who can't use HRT (eg if they have had breast cancer.)

Ask to try HRT.
