Everol patches not sticky?

Ladybird3355 · 16/08/2024 16:48

Hi, I have been using everol patches for over 5 years without any issues. I currently use 100mg and have been since February 24. When I have used the last 2 boxes, they have gone on fine then started to wrinkle the same day and I have had to change it as it has almost come off. I also have a red rash underneath that I didn't have before. Has anyone else noticed any changes?

I had a couple of boxes like this when I was on the patches.
I used some micropore tape to keep them on although it didn’t stop them wrinkling.

Are you warming them before you apply? Either between your palms or hold over a hot drink for a minute?

I was like you - Evorel was brilliant for me for the first wee while (despite the size, and them crinkling like a bag of crisps), but over time I developed a sensitivity to the glue and found them incredibly itchy. Never had an issue getting them to stick but had to stop using them because of the irritation - I am the same with plasters.

Other brands are available - Estradot is great, the patches are much smaller but there have been supply issues. Other brands are Estraderm and FemSeven - ask your GP about changing?

Thank you both. Yes, might have to do that. The irritation isn't bad and as long as they stay on I could cope with that as it does go once removed. I will try warming them and see if it makes a difference. Such a shame as things are great for a change apart from that and have been fab for years. 😊

I’ve had two odd boxes now that been like this. The patches just come unstuck within 24 hours, especially in the shower/bath. I wash the area with proper soap, let it dry, wipe it down with surgical spirit, let it dry, apply the patch carefully, hold it down for a good 20 seconds… then it falls off the next day. But then I had one box in between these two that stuck fine!

I got that fed up with going through them like water I emailed the company with the batch numbers etc. I just got a useless generic email back with a pdf of the instruction leaflet like I was some idiot who hadn’t bothered to read it. I’m sure there must be faulty boxes as why would some be fine but the next box rubbish?!

LittleMy77 · 18/08/2024 08:54

I had a box where they just didn’t stick. I think sometimes the adhesive is a bit dodgy, bloody annoying tho as I ripped through a box in no time and then had to beg for a new prescription

Re the rash / itching, I had that and it was getting worse. The prescribing pharmacist said she hears it quite a lot and it’s to do with the alcohol based adhesive (or something) she recommended taking the back off the patch, wafting it around for 30 secs and then applying it as usual. Sounds ridiculous but it worked; my skin irritation from them has nearly gone. If that doesn’t work, they can prescribe a steroid spray to put on

that's great advice from the pharmacist - something really practical you can try to address the itch. When I asked my pharmacist about it I just got a head tilt and "see your GP".

Yeah, she was so good. I had my yearly HRT review with her and was a bit pissed off at first it wasn’t with the GP. However she spent 20 mins with me doing the most thorough medical review I’ve had in years! Much better than the GP or practice nurse as she was totally up to date with all things HRT and peri and looked at me as a whole person with family history etc so walked through pros and cons of options. She also followed up with me later when she said she would, to ask about the patch issue

Luckingfovely · 18/08/2024 10:03

There must be either a dodgy batch or a change to the formulation.

Have been on them for 2.5 years with no issue - and now they are wrinkling up and leaping off my skin with gay abandon, whilst leaving the skin irritated.

Ladybird3355 · 18/08/2024 10:34

Thank you all, at least it's not just me. I wish I had a Pharmacist like that, ours at the Dr's is awful. I will try and wait before I put the patch on to see if that works, hopefully it will. I agree, something has changed as there can't be all of us who have not had problems suddenly getting them and i have had no other problems in the last 5 years. I have emailed the company but will expect a generic email soon 🙄.

I contacted the supplier and they wanted batch numbers and expiry dates. Maybe worth sending them if anyone has them and is having the same trouble as me. Not sure if I can post the email address but I have is anyone needs.it.

I waste more than I use, luckily I have thousands for some reason. They don't hardly stick at all. I have to put them somewhere that never moved, they also sweat off really easily too.

Ladybird3355 · 20/08/2024 16:31

It's strange as I had no problems before just the last few boxes. Theramex have replied and said "If you still experience adhesion problems after following the guidance within the Patient Information Leaflet PIL, please speak with your
treating healthcare professional who will be able to assist you.
Press the patch down to the skin with the palm of the hand for at least 10 seconds. Pressure and heat by the
hand will help to achieve maximum adhesion of the patch.
In relation to some patches sticking and others not, we confirm the adhesive properties of the patches are the
same across all batches.
However, we are aware that individuals may experience variable adhesion, dependent on where the patch is
applied, as the nature of skin varies across different parts of the body.

Will just have to see how I get on. They want the batch numbers and expiry again but don;t think anything will be done as they say they are tested and quality controlled.
