Sorry but that is what it seems like.

I'm 52. No period for five months. I was pleased because I thought this was the end of my periods and menopause was happening relatively drama free.

But I'm now on day 3 of incredible flow. I cannot leave the house. I am flooding super ++ tampons in an hour. Shit. I am also floored with fatigue.

Is it like five missed periods all at once?

It feels like it's never going to end.

If you're soaking pads or tampons in an hour or under, you need to get it checked out x

If you are bleeding that heavily you need to seek medical attention. If you start to feel dizzy/faint you need to dial 999 or get someone to take you to A&E.

Some women do experience extremely heavy bleeding like this without a sinister cause but it can be a sign of something serious going on.

I had this earlier this year - was a fibroid. You should get checked asap if you're soaking pads in an hour of feeling light headed - but be prepared to make a fuss.

You need Tranexamic acid (tablets) from the pharmacy (for heavy periods) or you can use ibuprofen meanwhile ( as directed on the packet.)

Tranexamic acid can be prescribed by your GP as well, to take in the lead up to a period to help reduce the flow.

This could be a one-off (a heavy period after 5 months) which is sadly 'normal' but if it happens again you need to see your GP.

It’s sounds like your haemorrhaging and I think you should get to the hospital.

you might have bust an artery or vein in your womb.

feeling faint or dizzy shows you’re going into shock from blood loss.

Can an ambulance and get to the hospital. The maternity hospital if possible as they’ll have gynaes. who can operate if needed.

never mind about anything else.

BlastedPimples · 07/08/2024 14:41

I don't feel dizzy or faint. Just incredibly weary.

It seems to have slowed now on day 4. Super tampons are lasting 3 hours as opposed to one and energy levels are ok.

So weird. I'd rather have five normal periods than this whopper. Obviously I d rather have none at all but that will come.

This is very unlikely.

Sadly, it's quite normal after 5months of no period.

Get some Tranexamic acid in, in case it happens again.
You can buy it OTC from a pharmacy.

menopausalmare · 07/08/2024 16:45

I'm not surprised you feel weary- probably anaemia from blood loss. Please get it checked out.

BlastedPimples · 07/08/2024 17:34

Thank you so much for all responses. I was a bit afraid of what was going on!!

I guess this is the menopause in all her glory.

Still seek a specialist advice. I suffered with extreme heavy periods and at the end I felt a mass in my abdomen which was a blood sucking fibroid which left me extremely anaemic and very unwell. Recently had a complete hysterectomy and can't wait to feel human again.
