Help with HRT

Hi, can anyone help explain medication?

I have been prescribed Evorel25 which I understand I start taking within 5 days of my next period. I also have utrogestan tablets 100mg which says to take one a day on days 1-25 of each 28 day cycle.

I am confused as to when I start taking the utrogestan. Would it be the first day of my next period? The nurse who prescribed wasn’t very helpful and tbh it was a bit of a stressful process just trying to get the prescription (3 weeks of ringing and messaging gp surgery).

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Thank you for your response. It did seem to make sense that it would be.

If you're still having periods, you should be on a sequential type which is 200mgs ( 2 tablets) 12 days per cycle.

The 25 days (it's now actually used daily not 25 days) is for women with no periods. Post menopausal women.
On the leaflet in your pack of tablets it explains the 12 day way of taking it.

Did your GP not explain- or are they confused/

To be fair I was misprescribed exactly as you’re saying

Yes, I am still having regular periods which I explained to the nurse. Maybe confused, as I say it’s printed on the front of the packet 1x 100mg per day. So maybe I need to get back in contact to confirm which is the correct dosage for me.

The nurse just told me the instructions for taking would be on the front of the packets at that was all. I am a little disappointed with the whole process and my gps and the advice given. It all seems a little insensitive or am I being over sensitive?

No they are really rubbish at prescribing.
If you read the patient information leaflet you will see there are 2 or 3 options and they’ve told you the wrong one (they did same to me).

I ignored it and followed the right one and at next review a different dr said oh yes now you’re doing it right.

I take 2 x 100 progesterone on days 15-26 inclusive

This is the 3rd post today /last night on misprescribing @Megs79

It's quite shocking especially as it's very easy for a GP to look online at the info.

The pharmacist will follow the prescribed dose on the prescription, and that's what's on the label. This would be written by your Dr (or the nurse if they are allowed to prescribe.)

As a PP says here, the info is on the patient leaflet in the pack (and also online if you google 'How to take Utrogestan'.)

There are 2 options- one for women with periods who use cyclical HRT, and one for women without periods who use continuous. (This is the same for ALL HRT including patches and tablets.)

For whatever reason, many GPs don't seem to be able to get their heads round this.
