Strange HRT dose

I am perimenopausal and still having periods. Initially started on the gel and utrogestan on days 12-26 of cycle x 2 a day. Went onto patches as didn’t get on with the gel, initially the everol sequi, 2 weeks of everol 50 patch and 2 weeks of Everol conti patch with the noresthisterone included, really struggled for the 2 weeks of the conti patches. So asked to go on Everol 50 with Utrogestan as never had a problem when taking those. Doc has prescribed me everol 50 and then to take 1 100mg Utrogestan table per night for 14 nights and then 2 weeks off. Isn’t that the wrong amount of Utrogestan? Shouldn’t it be 2 tablets a night for the 2 weeks?

If you're still having periods you have your own progesterone. That's what my private doc said. So it's ok to try a smaller dose. In think the idea was to move up after a while.

Hi @Rosienose yes you are right it should be 200mg for 12/14 days a month. When post menopausal it is usually 100mg everyday. I am on the 50 patch and 200mg utrogestan for 12 days a month. I start mine on the 10th of the month for 12 days

You're right and your doc's got it wrong.

The 100mgs (1 tablet) is for women post menopause.

I think you should inform your GP of this. The dose is on the leaflet for Utrogestan (and online) so it's a pretty big prescribing error.

It's not.
Sorry.

Your dr is incorrect

The dose is standard for the amount of estrogen, and based on women having periods.

Yes I thought so, have emailed to ask for a correct dose. Thank you

Doc has said; Thank you for your message. The utrogestan dose 100mg one at night for two weeks out of every 4 is correct. If you do have breakthrough bleeding at other times then yes I would advise to increase to 2 tablets (200mg) at night to try to stabilise the endometrium further.

I think you need to make them aware of the patient leaflet and the dose.

The recommended dose is 200 mg daily at bedtime, for twelve days in the last half of each therapeutic cycle (beginning on Day 15 of the cycle and ending on Day 26).

Alternatively, 100 mg can be given at bedtime from Day 1 to Day 25 of each therapeutic cycle. [This has now been changed, in practice, to every day. ]

It's a big prescribing mistake and your GP should be aware.
