For those who have had a hysteroscopy did you have GA/local or just pain relief? TIA

Just asking in case they mention having one.

I have had a hysteroscopy this afternoon and all ok with it despite getting myself worked up. I took paracetamol an hour before and had a local anaesthetic - gas and air weren't offered. The gynaecologist was great as she said if at any point it was too uncomfortable she would stop and I could come back at a later date to have it done under GA. I know I was lucky - I found it bearable if slightly uncomfortable.

Good luck 🤞.

@wellywonker that's good news.

I wasn't told I'd be having one I just posted in case I was. To be prepared. Just hope they don't say I need one in the future?

I've had two - both just on paracetamol.

The first one was a bit weird - I had my own personal nurse kept asking me if I was OK when I could barely feel a thing. In fact the guy doing it told me he was inside the womb and I hadn't realised it had even started. No biopsy

Second one started with a trainee although the consultant took over. That one was a bit more uncomfortable as I think she was more determined to see every corner and kept the pressure much higher. But it wasn't terrible. Biopsy this time but didn't really feel it.

It does seem a procedure where women's bodies react very differently - I was definitely very lucky. Have had worse experiences at the dentist.

Tried to do one live on day last November, abandoned after 20 mins and 2 positions.

4 months later ga carried out, took a good week to get over it, I returned to work after a day because needs must. Oh by heck how I’d wished I got the 12 months wait over 4 when I think how things turned out.

I recently had the hysteroscopy ga placed coil out at second attempt in same hospital and found someone disagreeing on how I’d had an anaesthetic injection (it allowed me to leave hospital conscious of everything) - it begs the question why can’t and why isn’t this offered to everyone who endures a hysteroscopy.

I had a hysteroscopy yesterday, took paracetamol and ibuprofen beforehand. I was surprised it was the consultant doing it, SHO did the TV scan but consultant took over to get better images, thickened lining so asked for go ahead to do hysteroscopy. They couldn’t get camera in through cervix at first attempt so offered local anaesthetic which I didn’t feel at all then went ahead with the procedure. I had no pain at all even when they did the biopsy and was able to watch it all on a screen. 3 female staff in the room and they were all lovely. I had lots of cramping afterwards but nothing worse than bad period pain. It was so much better than a check up at the dentist.

@APMom6 thank you and glad to hear that.
