Red skin

Hi I am suffering from very red facial skin and wondered if anyone had found anything that helped clear it up. I have looked at various cleaners/moisturisers on line but am loathe to spend too much only for it to make no difference.

I could have written the same thing. It's almost like I'm allergic to every type of cleanser be it cream cleanser or micellar water etc. Or maybe it's water I'm allergic to! Same with moisturisers. I've started using sanctuary facial oil and then no moisturiser, moving straight on to the Dr Jart cicapair green cream. It has definitely made a difference and my face is much less red with it on. Looking forward to any other useful tips!

Is it rosacea? If it is, have you googled treatments that might be a prescribed cream?

I know that Clinique has a range called Redness Solutions- not cheap but worth looking at.

Thanks. It's not rosacea just more menopausal cr#p to deal with. Have looked at the clinique stuff but was hoping for some recommendations before I commit too much money!

Erborian cc green cream tones it down. Or Rosalique which is specifically for red faces and calms things down with the ingredients as well as the green colour. You can get samples from their website. I also find if I'm using retinol the red gets worse.

I gave up gluten and found many benefits - no longer having a red nose was an unexpected one. I thought I'd try it for a couple of days and am still going four years later.

Interesting. Not sure if I'd cope going completely gluten free but might try it for a bit. Just hate always looking so pink!

What makes you think it isn't rosacea because it sounds exactly like it? A GP visit might be in order. What creams do you use now as they might be too strong?

JinglingSpringbells · 29/07/2024 08:18

I'm not sure if you mean you face is red because you're hot and having flushes, or if it's red all of the time?

Certain things can dilate the blood vessels - mainly alcohol and caffeine - so does it get worse when you're drinking those?

If your face had become red all of the time, for no real reason, you should see your GP or even pay to see a dermatologist (NHS lists are years long so don't even think about that!)

I 'saw' a dermatologist via an E consult that the GP surgery sent and had a reply with a treatment plan within 24 hrs so that worth asking about.

I had terrible menopause spots/redness/rosacea. I tried a 'skin&me' treatment for several months which helped with the spots/rosacea but not so much redness but then I bought a 'skin47' bottle and my goodness the difference is honestly brilliant for me.
I'm happy to go out with no make mostly now. Occasionally I use an Erborian BB cream, mixed with La Roche Posay Effaclar AI Corection, but only a really tiny pea amount mixed together.

I get this from time to time and am fairly sure it's hormonal. I just use very gentle stuff, so a gel cleanser from Boots and a cloth and don't wear any make up for a day or two.

Not drinking and avoiding caffeine also helps.

Kitkatfiend31 · 29/07/2024 17:36

Thanks all. Will maybe try the docs and see what they say.

If it makes you feel better then you'll carry on with it! Might just mean being a bit more creative around food rather than reaching for a sandwich or wrap. I found I slept better too; it stopped my legs from tingling at night. However - it might be that it's not the gluten. I had terrible stomach ache after having a gluten-free flapjack recently. So might be the sugar or golden syrup, or additives. Anyway, yes - it's certainly worth cutting out bread, biscuits, cakes, pastry etc for a couple of days. I find that I can now eat good-quality pasta (the die-cut stuff) without symptoms, maybe because it doesn't have additives? Also sourdough (which is fermented). So in summary, I've unclenched a bit about gluten and have learnt as I went along what suits me and what doesn't. But the rosacia going was a big bonus because I've had a red nose (and sometimes cheeks) for as long as I can remember.

Went to the drs it was rosacea. I have been prescribed cream. Just started in the last couple of days.

I don’t drink alcohol at all and only have 2 cups of coffee, don’t smoke etc and can’t take HRT.

I saw a post on here with lots of women recommending a cream which the dr has now given me. Fingers crossed!
