Irregular periods

Hi there

Has anyone suffered from irregular periods? 3 week periods then another mini period after 5 days? That kind of thing?

I have spoken to GP and been referred back to gynae but not sure how worried I should be. Am 42 and suffer from adenomyosis already.

Interested in other women's experiences of perimenapausal periods.

Thank you

Mine got closer together and heavier. I ended up anaemic as I didn’t realise how heavy they’d got.

Thank you for replying. It's really difficult to know whether I should be worried it's something worse or just perimenopause symptoms.

Mine became very erratic in perimenopause. From every 28 days on the dot to either every six weeks or every three weeks. Sometimes I missed one completely. They got heavier too. A Mirena coil stopped them altogether. I also have adenomyosis but my gynaecologist isn't concerned about it at all.

Hi op mine were totally freaking out. From 28 days to 56 days then another a week later then nothing for 3 months. I had the coil fitted and the problem stopped. Now post menopausal for two years....so glad I don't have them anymore. I'm 55 x

Mine were all over the place in peri. Similar patterns to what you describe and worse.
One thing to keep an eye on - anaemia if you keep having very long periods.
I just put everything down to peri and didn't want to bother the gp but after a particularly horrible 9 week period I did go. Gp told me off for not going sooner and blood tests confirmed I was anaemic.

EBearhug · 17/07/2024 00:23

I agree with the anaemia. I've always been prone to it (regular blood donor, been turned away every now and then.) But long, heavy periods without much gap between them has made it worse.

I find the unpredictability one of the most difficult aspects to deal with, though to be fair, I haven't had too many other bad symptoms.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I've been anemic for a couple of years now due to the adenomyosis.

Tried the coil but it kept getting dislodged and then ultimately flushed out due to the heaviness of my periods.

It's so frustrating not knowing when it will start and stop. Never confident to wear light colours just in case!

I'm now in perimenopause. Periods themselves haven't changed but the timing is ridiculous. Anywhere between 3 days to 8 weeks! I am not anaemic but I have started taking vitamin supplements just to try and keep myself healthy.

I’ve gone from a regular 27 day cycle to anywhere from 23-24 days with spotting inbetween to this month I’m on day 29 with no sign yet. I’ve been all checked out and everything was normal just another one of the peri-menopause joys.

Mine were all over the place.

i recall running to the bathroom just before DH and I were going out somewhere: "My period's starting!"

"But you've just had one!"
