Is this normal?

So I had a mirena coil fitted at the start of June after a small surgical procedure to remove polyps and a fibroid. I had been bleeding lightly and I'm not on any HRT. I'm 56. Since then, my hair has become lank and brittle. I don't use a hair dryer or products except oil. My hair is falling out in clumps. Just running my hand through my hair results in so many loose strands. I'm now at the stage where I don't want to touch, comb, or wash my hair. I'm so depressed looking at the hair loss. Please someone tell me this is normal until the coil balances out my hormones. Will having it removed make any difference to the amount of hair loss? I'm taking Menopace, eating seeds, nuts and dry fruit, drinking two cups of milk daily and regularly oil my hair and massage with a bamboo brush. My sleep is normal and my blood test came back normal. What else can I do? I got married 6 months ago and now feel like ugly and unattractive. 😭

You might be very sensitive to the progestogen in the coil. You could consider taking oestrogen to balance it.

That's an idea, never heard of this but willing to try anything. What's the right tablet / oestrogen product to take?

Removing a fibroid and polyp doesn't necessarily mean you need a Mirena coil.

Is there more to this than you've posted?

It would normally be fitted as treatment for hyperplasia- a thickened womb lining- and sometimes for a time scale of 12 months (or whatever was discussed.)

Presumably you're post menopause?

The Mirena won't balance your hormones. It's used for treatment of hyperplasia or as the progestin part of HRT (along with estrogen.)

Were you given it to deal with hyperplasia? or to prevent more polyps? Did you want it?

Hair loss is usually down to loss of estrogen.

What was your blood test for?

Has your dr not told you it could be a symptom of menopause and possibly made worse by the Mirena?
