Hot flush in lower left leg

Sockmate123 · 21/06/2024 22:46

Hi,

I am not yet menopausal although at 43 it can't be far off! I wasn't sure what forum to put this in.
Over the past couple of weeks I have had a flush of heat on my left leg, shin area.
I have never had a hot flush so I'm not even sure it's an accurate description. I am getting bloods done on Monday for my cholesterol. Haven't had a chance to see GP but will obviously mention it when I do.

Just feels like a rush of heat and lasts 2-3 seconds. Doesn't seem to be aggravated by anything just random.

Any ideas?

Covid? Can cause weird sensations in lower legs / shins (did for me and see current Covid threads)

Wow good point! I never even considered that and I am a healthcare worker! Otherwise well though but I'll check just in case thank you!

Funnily enough I have had opposite. Felt like ice cold water trickling down my shin. Had it several times. Actually felt my leg to check if it was wet. Was so real.
I'm sure I googled at the time and was a meno symptom 🤷‍♀️

Otherwise, one peri menopausal leg 😁
Could it be referred from lower back?

eurochick · 21/06/2024 23:11

DVT?

DVT?

This was my worry too-any pain? Swelling?

Aparecium · 21/06/2024 23:14

My hot flushes generally started on face or chest, and spread outwards. They occasionally started on my limbs and spread inwards, but always in parallel. I never had a hot flush on just one arm, for example. What I have had, however, were phantom sensations on my inner leg, typically warm wetness, which were the result of a bulging disc pressing on a nerve. Nothing to do with menopause.

Does your leg actually go pinkish when you get the hot feeling? Or does it go red and firm? Or does it not change colour at all?

spiderlight · 21/06/2024 23:14

I've been getting that very occasionally for years, on either my legs or my back. It started in my early 30s (I'm 52 now), well before menopause age and covid. It feels like a trickle of hot water and then just vanishes. I asked my neurologist about it once and he had no idea what it was. Not much help, sorry!

Justwanttotravel · 21/06/2024 23:30

@spiderlight yes I used to get this. A feeling of a trickle of hot water. Always left leg. I now get a feeling like there’s a gush of warm water in my thigh. Left leg again. I was worried about DVT but no pain, redness or swelling 🤷‍♀️

That's the thing it doesn't turn pink or feel hot to the touch or anything like that...

No neither, I never even though of DVT but it's such a fleeting thing I don't think it would be that but I am just about to Google those symptoms just in case lol

Possible never damage? Any diabetes? Can you check your pulse in your ankle?

Do you have any back or mobility issues?

I had exactly what you’re describing for a good few weeks late last year. I’ve had a dvt in the past so was worried and saw GP. Gp completely unconcerned, thought probably linked to vein problems in legs (I have varicose veins the same side). I try to raise my legs when I can eg extra pillow at end of bed and on sofa

Oh that's reassuring. I am recovering from torn ligaments in the knee of the same leg so maybe that is impacting it in some way. I am seeing physio in about 3 weeks I will mention it at the appointment if it hasn't resolved by then. No pain or swelling or anything else suggestive of DVT.
