When is it safe to stop using contraception in menopause?

In my early 50s, do have some periods but I don't think I would if it wasn't for the HRT.
Is it ok to stop using contraception? I'd really like to. Not sure if there are any eggs lurking in there still 😊 I've heard 55 mentioned, but does everyone really wait that long?
Thank you

Either 55 or one year clear of periods, and not before.

im nearly 51 and last period was a light one in 2022 but have been on mini pill since i was 48 so it could be that that has stopped them

Thank you all. I really feel I can't tell by the "after last period" as they'd more or less stopped before I went on HRT and then reappeared.
I never hear of anyone (bar celebrities) being pg in their 50s. It's hard to imagine it happening! Are there any tests that show if you are still ovulating? Or could I track that with temperatures 🤔

What's early 50s @Cluelessaf
If it's 51 that's different from 53/54.

The odds of a pregnancy at 51/52 is very remote. I'm sure advice online is age 54 to stop using contraception.

Sadly, even if someone conceived at 51/52 the odds of it being a viable pregnancy to term is very low.

The periods you're having on HRT aren't periods - they are withdrawal bleeds and will continue till you're 90 (or as long as you use sequential HRT :) )

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells - I'll be 54 in a few weeks.(so not really early 50s come to think of it! 😂)
It's the thing about waiting for a while after your last period - if the HRT is stopping me from seeing that, I did wonder if 54 would be old enough or if I had to wait another year.

You'll never know as long as you're using HRT- only way would be to stop it for several months and see if you had a period.

The odds of conceiving at 54 are pretty remote and carrying a baby to term at 55 almost unheard of.

Thank you, that's very helpful I will think it all through.
I totally wouldn't expect a pg to be successful. But not keen on having a (another) miscarriage either. But would be lovely to just be free of all this contraception lark.

Yes My worry is an ectopic which is more likely as well.
