Pessery to not feel prolapse

Windyshallows · 15/05/2024 06:30

Hi ladies.
I have a minor prolapse that I can feel just in the opening of my vagina.
Feel like a bulge.
I do not leak but wanted to buy a pessery so the bulge doest rub when I'm walking ect.
Anyone had similar and found a pessery that stops this.
Waiting to see someone about having one fitted but who knows how long that will be so looking for something short term.

TBH your best move would be to see a women's physio who can assess you. They can tell you if you need a pessary or if you can help this with exercises (pelvic flor exercises, under supervision from them.)

You can book yourself an appointment with a women's physio - do an internet search in your area and choose one who deals with this. The cost varies but is around £65.

It's not a good idea to use a pessary without some medical advice because a) you may not need one b) the wrong sort can make it worse and c) my understanding is you have to be fitted with the right sort, depending on where the slackness is.

Have you tried doing Kegels regularly - 10 squeezes 3 x a day?
That should be the first step and it's what a physio would advise but they'd check you were doing them right.

Definitely go to talk to the GP if you haven't already. It may be that your declining oestrogen levels are causing issues with the vaginal lining and dryness, and you could benefit from vaginal oestrogen which takes many forms: tablet, cream, pessary. These are a type of localised hormones that strengthen and rejuvenate the area somewhat.

Some specialist physios can also prescribe estrogen cream and fit pessaries.

I have one. I don't really like it. The issue I had is that it sits slightly to high for me so part of my prolapse would sneak under it. I did wear it for a long time but losing a substantial amount of weight has relieved the symptoms. If I was to start running again I would start wearing it.
I have a cube one rather than the ring. The physio advised me on the type and then I was able to do some follow up appointments which helped a lot. Even things like having a short lie down in the afternoon really helped.

Hi thanks for the responses, I'm under a physio but she is private and doesn't do the pesseries she said one would help but would need to go through gp to get a referral.
I'm doing pelvic floor exercises, and I'm using estrogen cream.
Just wondering if anyone had found anything so stop the bulge feeling in the opening in the mean time.
I had a hysterectomy in jan which has caused the prolapse.

You could perhaps find a physio who is able to fit them .

Who would your GP refer you to? An NHS physio or a gynaecologist?

Could you ask to see whoever did your surgery in January?
Has your physio said if it's fixable with exercise or maybe even more surgery?

What's the long-term plan?

Windyshallows · 15/05/2024 14:28

I've been discharged from my consultant.
Long term plan is pelvic floor exercises as it's not to bad at the moment, want to avoid surgery as long as possible.
I'm only 43.
I will try and find a physio that fits them.
Feel like I'm figuring it all on my own

Hi OP in my experience private physios don't fit them. I just booked a GP appointment and the GP did it. In and out in 5 mins.

I struggled with mine at first as the prolapse pushes it out esp when I need a bowel movement. But I've got the hang of it now. I reach in, hook it out, have a bowel movement and then squeeze it together l, push on the back wall and it pushes it all up and I feel my cervix through the middle of the ring..

I can't be without mine now, I keep it in all the time except for having a poo.

Mine doesn't help with the cystocele though, just the rectocele.

Can I ask: do you keep it in for sex?

Droolylabradors · 03/06/2024 04:42

@Wantitalltogoaway gooodness no!!! Mine sits about two knuckles away from my vulva by the end of the day, there's no way I could have sex with it in. We also don't have much sex as there's no point as I can't really feel anything!!
