Hi
I wonder if anyone has any advice for me to pass on to my sister.
2 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a breast removed and subsequent chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This resulted in her going through the change at a fairly young age. She suffers a lot with night time waking up sweating. She currently is on 'tamoxafen' (sp?) for the cancer and takes a pure form of evening primrose oil for the night sweats. Any body got any advice to what else she could take as the evening primrose oil isn't working, and it needs to be spmething that doesn't interfere with the tamoxafen.
Cheers.

I don't know, myself, but would recommend asking on BC support sites too - simply because there will be lots of women there who have been through the same problem and hopefully will have some advice! I spent some time on a BC forum a few years ago (had a BC scare, turned out not to be but made friends with several women) and have a feeling there isn't a lot that can be taken safely...the jury is still out on plant oestrogens (black cohosh, etc) so most of the women didnt' take them. Might be some practical ways of coping with the sweats, though??

Sage Tincture from the health food shops is just the most AMAZING thing for stopping all night and day sweats. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Get it now.

I am having intense hot flushes both day and night. I recently was diagnosed with precancerous cells in my cervix and my Gp will not give me HRT and warned me off anything plant like which provides plant oestrogens e.g.soy. My GP gave me a low dose of antidepressants NOT for depression but because they have been succesful in treating women having hot flushes whilst undergoing cancer treatment (I'm not undergoing this treatment and haven't had breast cancer). Tbh they don't seem to be working atm so I have increased the dose slightly. I went to another GP yesterday who says I may be on the wrong ADs for hot flushes. Anyway I thought I'd mention it, it's quite recent research I think. I have an appt at the Menopause clinic end of June and will be able to ask more then.

Forgot to say I don't know if ADs interfere with tamoxafen
