Red face / rosacea

Hi all, I'm 48 and seem to have been fairly managing any hormonal symptoms of the peri menopause until now!! My face is awful, bright red, hot, red spots and it's embarrassing! I went the GP who was great and she prescribed me Soolantra and Mirvaso. I've started on the Soolantra once daily. Haven't started on the mirvaso yet. I've also got a prescription for Oestrogel and Utrogestan, which I've got to wait until my period to start.

Has anyone had experience with this and have a positive outcome? 🤞🏼did the hrt help with rosacea, red face?

Thanks!!

Ask your doctor to prescribe Finacea or azaelic acid for the rosacea spots, that's what I use, I think the other meds are for flushing/redness. My triggers are sunlight, alcohol and caffeine you'll have to become aware of yours. It's usual to wait for a period to start cyclic HRT, I hadn't had one for a few months so just started straightaway. HRT has really really helped me, I'm the same combination as you. Hope things start to run smoothly for you.

Thanks, sorry to hear you're struggling with this too, it knocks your confidence doesn't it! I have the ordinary azaelic acid, could I use that in the morning with the soolantra at night?

Soolantra worked wonders for me. Suffered with rosacea all my life. I now have a subscription with Dermatica which is working well and I'm also having pulsed dye laser treatments every 8 weeks. Expensive but effective in reducing redness and getting rid of my broken capillaries.

I'd stay well away from the Mirvaso, doctors don't ever tell you this but it makes the situation worse most of the time. It basically constricts the blood vessels in the face so you look lovely and even toned but when it wears off and the blood vessels widen you can have terrible rebound flushing that's worse than the original redness and your skin becomes more reactive.

For some people they can use it fine for a while before the rebound problem starts but others get it after the first use. There's plenty of people that have used it and had a terrible experience on the Reddit rosacea forum.

Soolantra is supposed to be the best if Demodex is the cause of your Rosacea. Soolantra can make you more spotty when you first start using it as the mites die off.

Thanks for the advice all😁feel better knowing hopefully it might be resolved! The idea of mites is grim, I'm super hygienic bedding etc so other than cuddling my fluffy Goldendoodle, can't think we're else I'd get mites!!! Suppose they can't test for the type of roseacea you have and just have to guess?!

Everyone has Demodex it's just that people with rosacea can have an overpopulated of them and I presume can be allergic which might cause the redness/spots?

It's a bit trial and error when treating rosacea because what works for some doesn't work for others. Basics need to be super gentle face wash/moisturiser and a high SPF plus whatever topical works for you.

I don't think the dermodex link is proven with rosacea. It is most prevalent in women in their 40/50s, if it was a simple case of mites then it would be as prevalent in men. My dermatologist told me this anyway. The papules are not bites.

Soolantra's active ingredient is Invermectin which is an anti parasitic. Seems to work for a lot of people where other topicals have failed. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I've seen a lot of Americans just use the actual animal alternative bought from Amazon with the same results because some can't afford the price of Soolantra in America and sometimes insurance won't cover any of the cost.

Absolutely agree with @BeansOnToast32
Additionally, CeraVe and Cetaphil will be your friends in terms of gentle skincare.
