Does this sound like peri?

I'm nearly 43 and since being 41 my periods have changed. They are now so heavy to the point where on day 1 I'm constantly changing my pad. I now also feel extremely low for 3 days before my period is due. I never used to. To the point where I really can't get out of bed and have to be pretty much forced. I literally feel for those 3-5 days like life is terrible. I don't know much about menopause but does this sound like the start?

Could be...the mirena coil sorted my periods out.

I also got a Mirena coil age 42 and it sorted the exact same problem out. No periods for 5 years now, it has been a miracle.

Could well be the start. My periods got slowly heavier and closer together, then I ended up anaemic so knew I had to do something. I got the Mirena, which I knew could be part of HRT when I needed it. I wish I’d got the mirena years earlier, rather than struggling on.

The thought of having a coil has always made me feel really sick I can't even think about them without my legs going numb!

It's more the depressive symptoms I'm struggling with. They are terrible

I'm 43 and I was in the exactly the same position as you with very heavy periods. I had an external/internal scan that picked up adenomyosis. I was also borderline anaemic and was extremely fatigued.

I really didn't want the coil, so have gone back on the combined pill and my bleeding has reduced by 90%. Life changing! I'm also on iron tablets to recover my ferritin levels too.

I'd encourage you to go to the GP to request a scan and blood tests. Good luck!

Go to your GP about the heavy bleeding, you should get checked for fibroids which could be causing it. The loss of energy could also be related to the heavy blood loss making you anaemic.
