Bleeding / per menopause...

Hi All, So as the title says really. Bit detailed but feel I need to explain.

About a year ago I started bleeding and would not stop. It was really bad so Dr's did tests and I had a scan to rule anything out, they couldn't find anything so being 42 they put it down to peri menopause.

Anyway they put me on 5mg Norethisterone (the period delay tablets) to stop the bleeding and reset my cycle. This worked although had to take it a few times over several months. Anyway for the last 6 months I have been fine and periods back to normal.

This month period started a few days later than should have done and quite clotty (more than usual and different to normal for me). Anyway it kind of stopped then started spotting couple of days later and then back to having another period not heavy but definitely more than spotting.

Unable to get a damn Dr appointment (it's a nightmare in my area). Hopefully will get one soon but just wondered in the mean time.... Has anyone had this

(I know everyone is different, but just wondering if it is normal for peri menopause) with the irregular periods and having a normal cycle then starting again and not stopping....

Feeling bit down about it all, I can't stand the bleeding not stopping.

Also, I am going away for a week at the end of May and was going to take the period delay tablets then so I could enjoy my break instead of worrying about bleeding etc. So bit worried to take them now to stop the bleeding if I need to take them in a few weeks for when I am away. Any advice much appreciate as don't know what to do.

Would the combined pill be a option for a few months? You could take it back to back for when you are away.

It is a lot easier to get contraceptives prescribed than it is to get an investigation into issues. You can also buy it .

Thank you for your reply. Sorry one important thing I forgot to mention is... I am on the mini pill and always have been and continue to have been even through all the bleeding and even taken the norethisterone as prescribed by Dr's.

This is what was even more abnormal as the mini pill I am on usually calms/slows or stops periods and it has done for me for many years so to suddenly stop and me continually bleeding was why Dr's did tests.

Due to a health condition this is why I am on the mini pill and not the combined pill so unfortunately changing contraceptive pills is not an option for me.

Neither is the coil... so this is why I am a bit stuck. I have got a telephone call with a dr next week but I am sure they will not be much help!

I was just wondering if others have similar with peri menopause.

It might help if you said what the other issues were as otherwise it's hard to offer advice.

I get spotting most days , but it's very light. And the mini/ pill/ merina were suggested solutions to me .

Have the doctors eliminated any other causes , like fibroid?

You could stop the minipill and see if there is any improvement. I've heard that many women can only tolerate hormonal bc for a certain length of time.

Thank you all, sorry for the delay. Dr called, put me on Provera 10mg tablets as lower chance of blood clots than the Norethisterone apparently. Been on them 4 days now and still bleeding :(

@JinglingSpringbells My main health condition is Type 1 (insulin dependant) Unstable Diabetes and complications from this including Neurological and a type of DVT plus other health issues which don't factor into this or the bleeding and medication I am on.

@Mairzydotes Doctor's did tests last year including scans and everything was clear hence they have put it down to perimenopause.

I explained to Dr on the phone I have had a lot of clots and even when peeing there is blood clots in it and they seem to think this was normal and I have a history of bleeding and going on the meds to stop it so they feel this is the same thing. But this is very different to me, I am bit worried but Dr's don't seem worried or feel they need to see me.

Any advice/ help much appreciated.

After I had I had the second dose of covid vaccine my periods were ridiculously heavy for a year and lasted 3 weeks at a time. So heavy that I couldn't really leave the house for more than nipping to the shop as I would completely leak through a super tampon and a pad well within an hour every hour for the full 3 weeks. It's quite well documented that the vaccine has caused this in many women and the first dose had me in a burning rash over my stomach for about 3 months. Why I listened to my doctor and got the second dose I'll never know 🙄. Anyway it was eventually advised that I get the mirena coil fitted and honestly wish I'd have done it years ago. Life with no period what so ever is just incredible. It took about 6 months for it to completely disappear but it was only light bleeding from the start.

The Covid effect on periods should only be temporary, at least that's what my doctor said.
I've heard so many conflicting things about the Mirena...
OP, you said you had 'scans'. Do you mean vaginal ultrasound? I suppose they would have seen them if you had fibroids...

Hi

I’ve had a similar experience to this. Twice in the last year I’ve had extremely heavy periods of 40 days and 20 days. At the moment I’m on day 49 of my cycle with no period at all! The length of my cycle, length of my period and heaviness of my period is completely random. I’m 45 and have had two rounds of blood tests (the first time the GP told me it looked like I had already gone through the menopause, the second time that I wasn’t even perimenopausal!). I’ve also had pelvic/uterus scans and all is normal.

Norethisterone has stopped bleeding for me.

currently waiting for CD1 to start HRT as I’m starting to get other symptoms of perimenopause.

Hope this helps.
