Confused about using Estriol cream with fibroids

I'm 56 and still perimenopause. I've resisted using HRT as I have a long history of fibroids and I don't want them to get worse. Besides, my symptoms are quite mild to date - bit of brain fog, mild sweats, mild breast soreness, bit of anxiety etc so why rock the boat? A doctor noticed recently that I have mild vaginal atrophy (was unaware!) and prescribed Estriol cream. However, having read the leaflet, it suggests it could make fibroids worse. The doctor is well aware I have fibroids yet still prescribed it. I'm also wondering if it will help with my mild symptoms, leaflet suggests it's for vaginal symptoms of low estrogen (which I don't really have) so wondering if any point?! I'm confused!

Thanks.

I absolutely couldn't comment about using cream, but I have my hrt as a patch with the coil- it has actually shrunk my fibroid! Would that be an option for you?

Thanks. I did have a Merina coil a few years back bit it didn't suit me at all. Acne & constant spotting. Begged them to remove it in the end!

You do have low eostrogen though, it's causing the vaginally atrophy.
(Grumpy comment by stressed out perimenopausal women, sorry)

It's tricky finding the balance. I have adenomyosis which is oestrogen dependent. I still use hrt - patch and oestrogen cream for VA - because I think the benefits to my energy, mental health, aches and pains etc outweigh the disadvantages. But the adenomyosis is getting worse, so I'm not sure anymore. If you're coping without awful symptoms of peri for now then perhaps you don't need it. Vaginal moisturiser might be enough.

@Geminijust Local vaginal estrogen does not affect fibroids.
The cream/ pessary you'd use puts estrogen into the vaginal walls but it doesn't reach the womb.

The leaflets in these vaginal treatments are the same as the leaflets in systemic HRT.

Consultants have been begging for years to have them changed as the risks do not apply to vaginal treatment.

Years ago, there was some concern that women using vaginal estrogen may have needed progestogen now and then (to counteract any build up of the womb lining) but this is no longer the case.

As a PP says you do have low estrogen - and it's causing VA.

At 56 you are likely to be at the very end of peri menopause. Your periods will likely stop very soon.

@JinglingSpringbells Hi, I've just been put on Blissel (Estriol) and have been trawling mumsnet for advice and found your reply to OP. I, also, have two large fibroids in my womb and have just terrified myself reading the information leaflet on this gel, which mentions fibroids. Should I be worried? Also, I've just used it for the first time and I'm stinging like mad down below. You seem to know about this gel from the reply you posted, so I'd be very grateful for any advice, thanks.
