Hi after a Hidious year of struggling with waking up after only a few hours sleep where I had to resign in the end as not coping , I'm here again .

I've started a new job and the lack of sleep has crept in . The only connection I.can see is it happens when I'm in a break from the progesterone. Tablets ( I have everyone patches too ).

Can anyone help I try sleep hygiene and have no cggirne Z
I'm now in the position where I need a job that works round sleeping 2.5 hours which makes me cry , I've lost so much to the menopause and am so fed up of it it's taken my career and finances so much and the gps don't seem to know what to do

I can't help but I can empathise. I'm up too, same reason and wondering how I can get through another days work today. My memory and decision making abilities are shot to pieces because of it and I'm terrified I will make a huge mistake at work as a result. The anxiety is awful. Sorry you are going through this too.

Sorry you are here too . I'm at a loss with the only decision left that I take a part time job that works round this which saddens me so much as I've worked hard to get where I am . Financially this has killed us too . What have you tried ?

I would talk to your gp about amitryptaline, low dose. My mother was on it for years for menopausal sleeplessness. 💐

Me too.
I haven't worked for 5 years. I had private blood tests done through Medicheck (£150) which revealed my estrogen level is 163, when it should be a minimum of 250. I've had a hysterectomy (again privately) so use estrogen only patches (Estrodot) of 100mcg. My GP having looked at the blood tests has said there's clearly a problem with absorption and has finally referred me to an NHS gynaecologist, as I said I can no longer keep paying privately for my treatment if I'm not working. The surgery are also going to do more blood tests to look at my testosterone and progesterone levels.
It shouldn't be like this, fighting and paying for treatment to just feel well enough to work again.

You should try to adjust your HRT.

Can you give more info?

What dose patch are you on?
You possibly need more. Higher dose.

My consultant says that tests for estrogen are useless because the level varies over 24 hours and to be accurate blood needs to be taken over 24 hours (they are a hormone and fertility expert.)

Whatever patch you are on (assume it's estrogen only and you also use Utrogestan) have you asked to increase it?

How far into peri are you? At a certain point you can switch to continuous progesterone. That might help.

HappyFifties · 01/04/2024 19:16

I saw a menopause specialist and they allowed me to take progesterone from day 5-26 rather than day 12-26 because I deteriorated so badly in my weeks off it (I am 51 and still get periods). Now I only have one week off it a month and I can cope with that. The first day I start the progesterone after a week off, I get between 1-2 hours deep sleep on my Apple Watch which is the most I get in the month. The progesterone just helps the quality of my sleep so much.

Have you tried magnesium tablets, OP? Proved a game-changer for me...

cleo333 · 01/04/2024 19:42

The gp allowed me to stay on progesterone every day from now on today and to trial a month of it
