I'm finding it really hard to remove the sticky residue once I've taken off my patch on my thigh.

Any tips?

I've tried body scrub but it's not great.

Baby oil on a cotton pad will shift it!

bigbadbarry · 18/03/2024 12:46

Just use the old patch to rub over the sticky bits

Droolylabradors · 18/03/2024 14:13

I find a nail brush and baby oil is all that works for me. Does leave my skin very sore though.

In general I don't bother.

When I take my old patch off there's nothing sticky left on there to rub on the black lines.

Microfibre flannel and shower gel works on some, but for the stubborn ones I keep some Zoff adhesive remover wipes. I had some left over from needing to remove medical dressings and they work really well. There are cheaper brands, but I have never used them, so don’t know if they’re as effective.

Oil is always good.

I use this spray made by a company who make it for removal of stoma bag sticky residue. It's great as I have sensitive skin and I was sick of scrubbing at it.

This works (and is one of my favourite MN tips).

Surgical spirit also works. I spent ages trying to find it, or the stoma removal spray and after several failed visits to Boots and other phamacies, found that the chemical name is isopropyl alcohol and also that DP had a big bottle in the garage for fuck knows what but I'll assume cleaning something rather than any nefarious purposes and I pinched a bit of that to use.

Thanks all 💐

I'll give the baby oil a try first.

Hope something works as it won't be a good look on holiday in a swimsuit.

It did get better after I'd been using them for a while. No idea why it improved, but the layer of stickiness on my skin drove me mad.

I wear mine on my bum and my speedo swimsuit covers them, I swim several times a week. So if in desperation you could change location of the patch.

Zoff wipes are the only thing that works for me. You can get them from Amazon.

Glad to read these tips! I went for a rather unpleasant uterine biopsy thing a fee months due to unexplained bleeding while on patches. The gynaecologist popped out from under the sheet to remark cheerily on all of the sticky squares on my belly! 😬

juicelooseabootthishoose · 19/03/2024 21:52

I find rub baby oil in and let it soak in and degrade the adhesive. Then go back ten mins later with some more on a pad and scrub. I find my skin gets less sore with this method then just scrubbing at the outset

Skin So Soft from Avon. We use it all the time for DS (15) not for HRT patches obviously but to remove the various diabetic bits and pieces he has stuck on him. It's miraculous!

MyMotherMyDogAndClowns · 20/03/2024 10:17

Nivea waterproof eye makeup remover on a cotton pad. Works quickly and doesn’t make your skin sore. Everyone I’ve recommended it to raves about it being the only thing that works.

Oooh! I must try this, I have bottles of the stuff bought to protect us from horse-fly bites at a festival we didn’t get to in the end. Apparently it is very good as an insect repellant as well.

aSpanielintheworks · 20/03/2024 19:11

Wait two days then pick it off in the shower!

Apparently you can also use it for fleas on animals - dulute in water and then spritz your dog! It feels like it can't actually be that good for your skin the way it basically melts glue and kills insects...

Sprinkling of talc/baby powder when you take the patch off

feathers7 · 20/03/2024 23:48

This is what you need! It works brilliantly

Yeah I do this too, just scratch away at it in the shower and works fine. I do find it can come off better though when your skin is completely dry
