Utrogestan vaginally - no period yet

Hi ladies, does anyone have experience of taking Utrogestan vaginally? I'm on a 75 Everol patch and was taking 200 Utrogestan orally 14 days out of the cycle, but it was making me feel absolutely vile; dizzy, nauseous, brain-foggy. GP has advised to take it vaginally instead, so I've dutifully been shoving it up there every night but I'm on day 9 of it now and no period has shown up 😭

I'm worried because I feel like 75 patch estrogen is quite a high dose and I'm worried about my lining getting too thick. When taking the progesterone orally I would start a bleed between day 5-7 of Utrogestan.

I'm waiting for a mirena to be fitted (which I do not want at ALL but feel I have no choice.) I have to have this done by ultrasound in hospital due to previous uterine surgery so I'll be waiting months. I have a 4 and 1 year old to look after so I really need to feel better. Sad I definitely feel less grim taking the progesterone vaginally but it's no good if it's not going to induce a bleed, is it?

Anyone have any advice/thoughts?

Aren't you supposed to use a pessary? I didn't know you could take oral utrogestan vaginally?

@Remagirl yes apparently it's not licensed but you can and fewer side effects. Common way to take it in Europe.

That was odd.

The bleed is supposed to come 2-4 days after the 12th capsule.

The early bleed was likely because you weren't taking enough and/or your own period was breaking through.

12th capsule- 12th day ( to avoid misunderstanding!)

So if you started it on 1st March, the bleed would usually come around the 15th March.

Oh really @JinglingSpringbells ? I never knew that! It had always been that way since I started it in September. Maybe it's later now then due to more progesterone being absorbed vaginally?

The lining sheds when progesterone levels drop (the same as in our normal cycles without HRT.) You're creating an artificial cycle on HRT.

Your early bleeds were probably due to not absorbing much.
But if you were still having regular periods it could be that- but the same thing applies- you weren't absorbing enough progesterone.

This is on the patient leaflet in the box -

How much to take

Take two capsules at bedtime on days 15 to 26 of your 28- day cycle.

You will usually have a few days withdrawal bleeding (like a period) after this time.

Continue to take your estrogen HRT every day

Thank you @JinglingSpringbells this is so clear. I was still having really regular cycles (only 42 and just had a baby).
