Hi
I have gone into surgical menopause after having everything removed... I'm 43.
Started on evorel 75 now on 100 and testosterone gel.
Wasn't sleeping great on 75 but the 100 has rectified that BUT..... my anxiety is through the roof....dark thoughts ect which I've never experienced before.. I'm bone tired.
Just feel like crap basically.
Gp is not much use just says to wait to see my consultant which isn't great when appointments are so far apart or they ask if I want anti depressants....which I don't.
Anyone else felt like this and found a solution? Was it hrt was too high too low ect?

I had my ovaries removed at 39. I started on the patches but didn’t think they worked. I paid for a one off private consultation to try testosterone (as gp wouldn’t prescribe at the time) and she straight away put me on progesterone tablets and the Oestrogel as these work better. (GP was happy to prescribe) it’s easier to change the doses of the gel as well (between 2-6 pumps daily).
the progesterone I take at night as it can make you drowsy so seems to work for me. I also take a magnesium tablet at night to help with sleep.

although I still have my womb so that’s why I need the progesterone if you don’t have a womb I don’t think you need the progesterone?

would the GP to write to menopause clinic? I’m lucky in my area as the waiting list for clinic is so long the GP will email them and get a response back so it’s quicker for everyone involved.

It’s been a few years and have only just got a prescription for testosterone so don’t know how that fits in with everything or if that causes increased anxiety but does sound that maybe the everol dose may be too high now?

Im really sorry about the anxiety and scary thoughts but didn’t want to read and run.it definitely hard to find the right dose and it’s crap that information/services aren’t easier to access.

Anxiety was the worst thing for my about menopause and it crept up on me grsdually after my hysterectomy as I kept my ovaries and they took a while to pack up. Having everything removed is a massive shock to your system and it will take a while for your body to adjust. Give the HRT time, it will get better. I know it sounds simplistic but try other stuff too - I find mindfulness/meditation really works for me, just 5 minutes a day with an emergency "rescue" session when I felt awful, there's an app called Calm which is free, or Headspace which is brilliant too but you have to pay for. Also getting outside regularly, just 20 minutes brisk walk a day.

Also support groups, either online or in person. There are a lot of other women going through similar and it can be a comfort to know you're not going mad, and not alone.

@Bananawotsit @Misthios
Thank you both for taking the time to reply.
Currently using head space which does help.
Feel really out my depth and wondering if I will ever feel like me again!

Hi OP in my experience it's the progesterone that causes the anxiety and depression.

Droolylabradors · 13/03/2024 16:51

Sorry just read properly and seen you don't need progesterone. Sorry about that!!!

How long have you been on HRT? Mine took probably 6 months to make a real difference, being really consistent with daily use etc. when I first started I just got massive boobs and no other effect. A year in and the difference is huge.
