hello- have recently been assessed as having adhd ( add)
It became worse during the menopause and afterwards - which led to late diagnosis.
whole life feels like it makes sense - i didnt know that other people had minds any different - ! But it explains so much !
Gp sent me the above link suggesting that hrt can help menopause which can accecerbate adhd symptoms due to the increased drop in hormones that are already low in adhd.
I went to the gp originally as I thought i was getting dementia as i am very unfocussed, forget things , struggle to organise..
emotonal , tired.
however i sleep massively well .
i had v v few hot flushes , sailed through it .better than pmt!!
go has suggested to me that hrt will help the adhd , it will also help energy levels- always napping - tired, as well as my concentration and will protect heart and bones .
i thought that as i had a very easy menopause i didnt need hrt.
Does anyone else take it for what seems to be protective measures as gp seemsnto suggest? Even if u had a good menopause - the only thing i get is concentration issues and tiredness. ( but she says it also may help adhd)

Apart from the adhd - does anyone take hrt when they dont necessarily have problems post meno - ie for health reasons and to support mood .

Do you need ANY sort of intervention for your ADD?

Are you on medication for it?

The link explains that medication for ADD can help some people but also that women may be helped by additional estrogen.

If you don't want HRT, do you want or need some of the other drugs mentioned in the link?

Not everyone with ADHD/ADD needs medicating.

It's only my opinion but you might want to think of it as support for your ADD symptoms, if you need it, and not make long term health benefits part of the decision.

HRT is not prescribed for prevention of health issues (although some private consultants do just that if it's what women ask for.)

Thank you - i have not taken adhd meds . The issue is there is a long wait for the meds . So - at present am unmedicated .

have lived with adhd for so long amd managed- its the hormones in menopause that has made it worse to the point i really struggle to focus . It feels like an early dementia - my processing is really poor .

In that case, what do you have to lose?
Try it for 6 months to a year and see how you feel.

However, I'd also be asking for other tests to rule out dementia (if not already done.)

If this is something new and you are now 60, I'd be asking for more tests.

Brain fog (as it's known) with menopause tends to start during peri menopause not years afterwards.
