Just curious really. I have recently turned 43 and my periods started to change as soon as I had my copper coil out when I was 39 4 years ago to try for a baby with my now husband (we wanted to start trying before I was 40 and have been unsuccessful). I now totally believe I am peri-menopausal due to my cycles. I have no other symptoms others than my cycles have been so long and irregular and really heavy with huge clots. My last proper period was November 23 and I just started to brown spot on Friday which has turned into ever so slightly pinky red mucus. That cycle was 112 days.

I'm just wondering what to expect moving forwards and if this is starting to be the end for me. I'm devastated if truth be told, I'm not ready for this stage, I really wanted another baby and I don't feel old enough to be going through this.

Yes I “dried “ up like a dessert at the age 38 ! I’ve been through it :- sweats like you could wring me out in the morning, depression, anxiety, mood swing! Basically I’ve been an absolute joy over the last 12 years. I now don’t like many people, I love dogs, hiking more a peaceful life. I’ve gone from being very loud to now quietly taking things in. I feel like a completely different women - but I’m loving it ! I turn 50 next Friday and can’t wait 🤗

Similar. I was 38. I am 44 now & still on HRT with no plans to come off it. Ever.

I'm on HRT, which I asked for, but there's never been any guidance or support related to early menopause.

Sadly this is another example of the poor state of support for women's health, as a country.

Women and their health are ignored mainly.

The stats for women suffering from osteoporosis are shocking. 1:2 women will get it. And many will spend decades in pain and with disability from spinal fractures, broken hips or wrists. 100,000 older women a year die from the complications of osteoporosis. More than most cancer deaths for women.

And early menopause is a key risk.

Please look after yourselves if you have risk factors and insist your GP listens and sends you to a specialist.

@ZoeLoey
I think that comment is unfair,

I think the comment you’ve replied to is correct; when I started having issues with my periods at age 32/33, I went to see a GP and specifically requested to see a female one. When I explained my problems to her, her response was ‘oh, it could be early menopause, pick up a leaflet on your way out’. I sat in my car and cried at the thought of going through the menopause so early. Luckily, we had private healthcare at the time so we went that route and it was indeed the menopause. My point is, this GP was so uncaring and dismissive. And further down the line, when I was on HRT and had been for years and was no longer having periods, I went to a different GP for an HRT review and he refused to prescribe me any more because I wasn’t having periods. I had to complain to the practice manager before I could get my prescription.

I genuinely think there are some practitioners who either don’t understand what some women go through to or just don’t care.

My peri symptoms started just after I turned 43. The horrendous irregular crime scene periods have gone now that I had the contraceptive implant fitted and HRT has fixed the other symptoms. I had to fight for the HRT as the drs said I was too young but got it in the end.

Hi there, I started Peri menopause at 35 , had a baby naturally at 37 and again at 41 , I realise I was exceptionally lucky. In my case it was hereditary as my maternal grandmother had completed the menopause at 39 . She had 12 children so it was a blessing.

I’m on HRT almost 4 years now, I was in denial for along time as I felt too young despite my hormone tests coming back as oestrogen practically non existent. Don’t give up on having a baby just yet I’m proof it can happen. I hadn’t had a period in 3 months read an article on how probiotics could help with conception with women in peri menopause. I started BioKult probiotic, got a period in two weeks, got a period the second month , Pregnant on third month. Possibly a coincidence but I like to think it helped . Wishing you the very best and apologies for the essay.

I was 16 when it started and had full blown hot flushes while sat in classes doing my A'levels. It is called primary ovarian failure or POF but literally another way of saying extremely early menopause.

CreationNat1on · 02/12/2024 10:45

45 years old, went 5 months, 120 days without a period. Had spotting on 6th October, bleeding 7th. Had another period 2nd November, so 28 ish days later. Intense pms over the last few days, thought I would get another period.

Nothing, pms has subsided and not a trace of blood.

Have had tinnitus and hot and cold flushes. I feel I m in my last year of perimenopause. I guess I should go to the Doctors.

Overall, I feel OK. I m quieter, avoiding drama, enjoying life, dating. My mood is OK. Work is fine. I want less responsibilities, less nurturing and I want to focus on myself more.

36 - had a brain bleed right after giving birth. Luckily my family was complete, though it took a year to diagnose what was had happened, despite having had crippling post-partum headaches, vomiting, visual distubance & inability to breastfeed...

Have pcos so always hard to measure. My mum was through menopause at 45. My aunty was 38. I'm 38 periods have started to go mad again but maybe pcos. Saw private endocrinology who said as I don't want more kids to go on the combined pill as this gives oestrogen and progesterone and is a contraceptive and see where I'm up to at 45. He did full bloods that showed I'm defo not post menopause though.

birtybeeta · 02/12/2024 10:59

Me at 40 started with symptoms, back and forth to gp. Latest symptom is massive overproduction of sebum on my scalp and face which is horrible.
Waiting for a phone call from dr today as they cancelled my blood test last week..cannot actually speak to the gp who has been great dealing with me for the last few years due to their ridiculous gate keeping of gp appointments.
My symptoms vary ..stinking night sweats, anxiety which msg glycinate and the yoga helps with, the whole thing is shit.

I posted on this thread in the past. At the time I was doing IVF but that has now come to an end. Had an appointment at the GPs today as have many signs of peri menopause. Hot flushes, tensions headaches, exhaustion, sleep disturbance, anxiety, irratability etc. hard to know with regards my periods as have spent the last 18 months stopping and starting IVF so they are all over the place anyway.

Should get blood results on Wednesday and will be referred to the menopause clinic. Am 36.
