Adrenal and other stress hormones

Anyone know about interpreting hormone tests? I had the Dutch test done (I know some people think it is quackery but it seems in line with other things that have shown up before but I’ve brushed aside in my youth). My tests show estrogen and progesterone levels are in optimal to high range so practitioner does not yet recommend HRT. (I am 47). Estrone = 20.1; Estradiol = 3.2 and Estriol = 13.7.

Without copying every number:

In summary: I have a high DHEA level and elevated testosterone.
I have a ‘slight preference for the 16 OH pathway’ (a potent estrogen metabolite).

It is recommended I have a full thyroid test.

My symptoms are: brain fog though this started years ago, recent heart palpitations at night, intense rage before period, weight gain for last decade, impossible to shift, fatigue at times, sore or weak joints at times. I have also noticed intense pain if I accidentally tap the top of a fingernail by accident against a wall etc.

My periods are still like clockwork. Got pregnant on first attempt with first child ages 36 in second month with second child aged 38.

Have had ear fullness for nearly 3 decades (!) and it’s been put down to TMJ many years ago, and more recently just narrow eustacian tubes. My hearing is supposedly perfect.

Slightly frustrated that I can’t just put it down to perimenopause.

I’ve always had rubbish sleep but survive on about 6 hours a night. If I get less than 5 it’s a problem. I cannot remember the last time I slept for 8 hours. I may have ADHD without the hyperactivity. Confused! What’s wrong with me? Not depressed.

Sounds like similar symptoms to hypothyroidism. I started thyroxine 8 weeks ago and it made a difference after 3 weeks, not all gone but improved. Worth a thyroid test

Thank you! Did you get a test from your GP? Have been offered private all 5 thyroid market test for £160 plus checks for ferritin and B12 with the Thryoid association seems to recommend. I fear if the 2 markers the NHS test for are in range, they will fob me off.

Interested to hear how you get on OP, I’m experiencing similar symptoms but TSH/T4 just within threshold ranges

I had the test from the nhs, my TSH was out of range for 2 tests, so they tested my antibodies which were positive. Started a very low dose of thyroxine which seems to be helping

Thank you for your replies. I’m wondering if anyone can recommend any private tests where they check other markers too and whether the GP acccepts these before prescribing or whether they make you go through the NHS (more limited) tests. It takes SO LONG to get an appointment where we are and our surgery does not do blood tests. I do have private medical insurance but not sure I want to pay the excess just for some blood tests!

Quite a few people on the thyroid forum use private blood tests. I don't know if their GPs take them into account but that may be a place to ask
