Solution for heavy periods that isn't Mirena

I'm 42 and in early peri, I think.
My cycles are very short (22 days) and extremely heavy now. I have no pain and I hate messing with hormones, so I don't really want to try Mirena (i suffer with adult acne and really don't want it to get worse) but for two days every three weeks I can can barely leave the house as I flood so much. I'm thinking of going to the GP but Mirena seems to be thing they all jump to and I'm pretty sure it won't suit me

Tranexamic acid and mefanamic acid. Game changer.

Agree with pp.

But I have to say I have recently got the mirena coil (for endometriosis) and it has totally changed my life! The hormonal impact is much less than with the pill as it’s going straight into your cervix. I had an awful time with the pill but no side effects at all for me with the mirena.

Txa was amazing for me before I got the mirena.

I couldn't believe that it stemmed the bleeding on just a few tablets a day.

Thank you, will go and ask about options.

I'm in a pretty good place mental health wise after a rough last decade so I really fear tampering with hormones. Some BCPs I tried in my 20s didn't suit me at all

Has anyone who has previous hormonal acne tried Mirena with good results?

Ask for Transexamic Acid as pp said. I’ve had a supply for the past couple of years as I’m also in peri I think and about every alternate month I need them as I would be reluctant to leave the house.

How does it work? You take it on a heavy day and it slows down in a few hours? Or do you need to take it all the time for it to work when you do bleed?

I take it on the days when I find it’s getting heavy, ie days 1-3. My dosage is 500mg, taken x 3 times per day. 1-2 tablets depending on need.

It doesn’t take long to slow the flow down -maybe 1-2 hours, but the heaviness will start again if you miss of delay a dose.
