Muscle twitching/ fasciculations on HRT patch? Is it just me?

I've done a bit of googling and there are some accounts of this but it is not listed in the official side effects.

I'm perimenopausal and on Utrogestan 200 fortnightly and Estradot 75 patches continuously since last summer. I had been on the 50 patch for about 6 months and GP increased it to 75 due to joint pain. It possibly has helped with the joint pain but just after going up to 75 I started to get lots of twitching in large muscles, which I had never experienced before. It started in the large muscle of my leg and buttock then I have had periods of it along my ribcage. More recently it happens in the bicep and shoulder of my arm on one side. It is not constant but happens a few times on most days, being more noticeable for some periods than others. I didn't make the link at the time but when googling about muscle twitching saw it may be linked to oestrogen and realised it started after the increase. I also think I have been flatter in mood, more anxious and less motivated on the 75 and think I may be sensitive to oestrogen in general. I never felt great on the pill.
In contrast to many women, I feel amazing during the Utrogestan fortnight and sleep incredibly well, which was my main issue in perimenopause. I don't feel great on the other fortnight where I'm just on the patch.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this with a higher dose of patch or with HRT in general? I think I may look to go back down to 50 at my next review.

I had this symptom prior to meno and it was due to horrifically low levels of vitamin D. Do you take a good vitamin D supplement? If memory serves I had to take 10,000iug for two weeks (maybe longer, and maybe more) and now I take 2,000iug daily.

So I would look to get that checked out by your GP .

Thanks so much for responding! I have had low vitamin D in the past and was prescribed a megadose over a few weeks that brought it back to normal. I still take it but s more normal dose. When I was deficient I didn’t have this twitching though. I might ask my GP to check levels just in case.

It can’t hurt! It can be really hard to keep levels up so I occasionally take a mega dose just to try and keep myself topped up.
