On HRT for 2 years. Will the GP test my estrogen levels if I request it?

I suspect I have the start of Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia. Whilst the caused are speculative and many - low estrogen is one of them. I'm planking to go to the gp anyway to ask for a referral to a dermatologist but wonder if it is worth asking for the to test my estrogen levels and see if I am absorbing it well. Is that a thing they do?

Every month I have a new thing wrong with me plus continued brain fog. Latest thing is plantar fascitis. Prior that that adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) which I still have. Is it all related?

Also, just been unexpectedly been diagnosed with coeliac disease on the back of my dd being diagnosed. So now I don't know what's hormone related and what's nutrient deficiency related. And I'll have a fight with the gp to get blood tests for that, bone scan, follow up scan etc... So fed up.

Oh yes, and I'm on my 9th day of bleeding having a period only 18 days after having my last period, when prior to that my periods were mostly around 48 days apart.

Are you on the maximum dose already?

Timelime · 20/02/2024 10:46

No. I'm on 75mg. I'm guessing I need to go up to the 100mg before anything would happen...

I have heard that frozen shoulder is related to menopause and I've also had plantar fasciitis around this time so could be linked?
I don't see why your doc couldn't test you?

My GP surgery very recently refused to do any blood tests connected to taking HRT. I was surprised as I thought it was required after a few years, but apparently not ...

They are also incredibly lackadaisical about my thyroid medication & annual testing. It's always down to me to push it.

@Timelime My consultant (private and extremely well-regarded) won't test mine as they says it's a waste of money and unreliable.
Given I could hand over money for it, I believe them!

I think that with all your issues your GP should refer you to an endocrinologist or someone experienced as you've a lot going on.

I wanted an increase in oestrogen from 75 to 100 recently. Was told could have it if symptoms were not being controlled by 75 but the symptom I was complaining about wasn't oestrogen dependent.
So sent for a blood test and oestrogen levels at the very low end of normal so she basically coached me to agree that I still had at least one typical perimenopause symptom, and prescribed the higher dose.
