Sleep and new to Utrogestan

Been on HRT a couple of years now. Initially on everol 50/conti patches and progesterone only pill (desogesterol) for “contraception” but had a severe allergic reaction to patches so switched to estrogen gel about 6 months ago.
have been struggling lately with worsening symptoms - brain fog, severe anxiety, fatigue, poor sleep, nightly hot flashes, low mood etc etc. broke down at work and eventually spoke to GP for help.
was advised that previous GP had incorrectly prescribed and I should have been on additional progesterone so I’ve just started on Utrogestan.

GP was reluctant to start me on antidepressants and said she felt the lack of sleep was probably causing all of the other symptoms so to try for a month.

my question is did Utrogestan help with sleep? How long did it take?

I am desperate. I’m probably averaging 4/5 hours a night but all broken sleep. I’m usually awake between 3/4am and then every hour until the alarm goes off.

have started taking magnesium but seeing no improvement.

any advice welcome

Utrogestan does help in going to sleep but not sure it keeps you asleep in the early hours sadly. Also if you are 14 days on/off it helps only half the month.

Have you tried magnesium night time? And magnesium butter on your feet? These give me a few extra hours each night.

It helped me immediately. I take it every night though. I cannot believe how
much better I am sleeping. Also huge reduction in anxiety probably due to not being tired all the time. I do wake around 5 but can get back to sleep much quicker than I used to. Even if I don’t get back to sleep after 5 I’ve usually had 5-6 decent hour by then so it doesn’t compare to nights of broken sleep.

@SoftPillowAllNight thanks yes that’s what I feared that it would help me drop
off but not keep me asleep. Dropping off isn’t the issue but it’s the waking from 3am that’s making me so exhausted!
I think o need to look into the magnesium supplements more as I just bought a generic one but then read that some forms of magnesium are better than others.

Completely fell down a rabbit hole of supplement research and felt so overwhelmed!!

@Tootops thank you and glad to hear it helped you. I am
Only a couple of days into taking it so maybe it will improve?

I, like you, am on it for half the month (for me, the worse half when it comes to sleep). Yes, it does help; I also have issues with middle of the night wakings, and I sleep better on Utrogestan than I did off it. Some months are still bad, but some are good now - which hadn't been the case before I started taking it.

Hello. You sound similar to me. I only started HRT a month ago. I was put on Evorel Sequi. The Evorel Conti patches contain the progesterone so the original GP appears to have prescribed right.
I’m also on desogesterol.
I was fine with the Evorel 50 patch (oestrogen only) but when I put the Evorel Conti (oestrogen and progesterone) on, I felt horrendous. I didn’t sleep and I was suicidal.
About a week ago I was put on gel and utrogestan.
Has your GP said whether this will help with anxiety? I’m really struggling at the moment with terrible anxiety. I wake at 4am every night and my chest is tight and the intrusive thoughts start.
Don’t wanna go on antidepressants but don’t know if the HRT will help the anxiety.
(Sorry to piggyback on your post but nice to find someone on same HRT as me!).

@PopRay80 I actually asked GP for antidepressants because I was feeling so awful but she said she thought a lot of my symptoms were being made worse by the lack of sleep. She wanted me to try the Utrogestan for a month and see how I felt them before starting anything else.

Thank you for your reply. I will try the utrogestan for a while and see how I get on. I have a phone appointment with GP on Tuesday so will discuss with her. Hope you feel better soon!
