Uterogestan without oestrogen

Hello, does anyone take progesterone on its own? I’m in peri - but tried taking both as prescribed - and suffered with oestrogen overdose (if that’s a thing?). Think my O levels are still too high on their own or in comparison to my P at the moment. In Maisie Hill’s book she says it’s probably okay, but would like some real life experiences. I’ll also make an appt with GP, but that will take a while and they’re not clued up on menopause issues.

It's not really prescribed that way.

I've never heard of Maisie Hill but to be honest there are a lot of people in the media giving meno 'advice' but they are rarely qualified specialists.

Post menopause, no women have any progesterone as it's only released after ovulation. If it was safe to do so, women would use just estrogen as hrt, but the progesterone is necessary to limit the effects of estrogen on the womb lining (or it would keep on growing.)

If you think your HRT estrogen dose is too high have you considered reducing it?

What dose are you using?

I am not in the UK. My gynecologist prescribed only utrogestan, 200 mg on days 14-26 of the cycle.
I am perimenopausal, my main complaints being insomnia and anxiety. The utrogestan has been helping me sleep (it was usually the week before my period that my sleep was most disturbed). It is not perfect but it has improved.
I still get a period every month, now a few days after I stop utrogestan, so I assume I still produce estrogen. We will reassess when I see my gynecologist again in August.

I also suffered taking Oestrogen. Both patches (25mg) and Oestrogel. Tried both and within days I was lightheaded, shaky, emotional wired but tired and spaced out.

I also did think I’d try progesterone alone but one thing I was finding when I was on the 25mg patch was that I slept better and if I did wake in the night I felt calm. It was just trying to function in the day that I felt very odd.

I’ve decided to reapply the patch but cut the 25mg in half and see how that goes.

Im perimenopausal with very regular 28 day periods so I do t think my own oestrogen has dropped very much, hence the reaction to it.

My peri symptoms are also mainly insomnia and anxiety. So maybe our P has dropped more than the E.
