Feeling worse on continuous utrogestan after 10 days of taking?

I have been on 12 day cycle 200mcg Utrogestan for a year. Generally Ok but sometimes got mild diarrhea and mood swings.

Decided to move to continous (25 days a month) 100mcg.

I'm about 10 days into the new continuous regime (so only 1000mcg taken so far) and feel worse, with bad stomach cramps and diarrhea.

How can less Utrogestan be making me feel worse??

Currently take it orally and would prefer not to take it vaginally as I'm still trying to sort vaginal atrophy issues and have Vagifem to take as well.

What should I do, go back to sequential? I thought it was recommended not to stay on this regime after about a year of taking it though?

I'm perimenopausal and 46. Also on oestrogel and Vagifem.

Are you still peri? They don’t recommend moving over to continuous until 53 on sequential so they and then you don’t need too if you don’t want to. Your periods can break through and cause irregular bleeding if moving over too soon x

Thank you.

I keep saying I'm peri but don't know how to tell now I'm on HRT. I started having peri symptom over two years ago and my periods were sometimes 8 months apart then.

I did get a regular bleed just after my 12 day regime and have just had one now on the new continuous regime (around 8 days into that).

I am only supposed to take it 25 days of the month to still allow for a bleed as I understand it.

Either way my stomach cramps and digestive issues are worse on 100mcg day than 200mcg for the same period. 🙄

Apparently you take it everyday now on continuous not 25days new info has superseded the 25days. You take it every day and do not have a bleed but the first 6 months you can have bleed as it settles down.

Ah OK well I'm only on day 12 or so now so can just keep taking it. Doesn't explain why my symptoms are worse on less utrogestan though so wil still need to speak to a GP I think.

@Wonderbug81 apologies for resurrecting your old thread but I've just started to take my Utrogestan vaginally and have the worst diarrhoea. I've gone from 300mg orally (making me teary, bloated and tired) to taking 200mg feeling good up till 3 days ago where my tummy is very bad. I swapped over to this method about 8 days ago.
How did you get on with your symptoms?

Wonderbug81 · 07/06/2024 19:09

300mg is a lot! I've now moved to a 25 day cycle with 3 days off (100mg orally) and it's so much better. I have very mild symptoms when I restart, nausea and headaches but my body can take it much better.

I think this was a dose that used to be prescribed a lot before but they've moved to continuous.

I spoke to a gynae and she said it was fine as long as I was getting withdrawal bleed each month due to my age and the fact they couldn't be sure I was fully menopausal yet.

If there isn't, or there's irregular bleeds they need to do scans etc to check it's safe.

I'd speak to a specialist and see if you can do this too?

I'm going to speak to someone else because I've to take it continuously with no break so my symptoms arent exacerbated every time i am back on the Utrogestan. I'm 52 in July and having periods every second cycle now. My Evorel are 100mg.
Thank you for replying x
