Should I increase my Oestrogel pumps in this situation?

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy a couple of months ago and took my ovaries out. All went well and I am very glad I did as I was really suffering. However, hot flushes have increased. Not unbearable as I have about 4 or 5 a day but annoying. I am on HRT : 2 pumps of Oestrogel and 100 mg of Utrogesten daily.

I had my hysterectomy done overseas where doctors are not keen on HRT so couldnt' ask if I should increase Oestrogel pumps. It's a nightmare getting hold of my GP in the UK. Can I increase it to 3 pumps per day on my own to see if it helps with hot flashes?

I'm on 4 pumps a day so it must be safe at least. I too had a total hysterectomy, although mine was 13 years ago.
Hope an increase helps. I was on 8 pumps a day at one point but I think my GP just went a bit rogue on it.🤣

@Sususudio Why are you taking Utrogestan? (Is there a reason you've not said like endo?)

Utrogestan (or any progestogen) is only needed to protect the uterus lining from over-growing when using estrogen.)

On the face of it, from what you've said, you shouldn't need it. And it can also mean that the good effects of estrogen are reduced a bit.

Does the dr know what they're doing????

What Jinglingspringbells said. I believe dosage also depends on your age, with younger women, particularly those who have had oopherectomies, often needing more estrogen than women in natural (peri)menopause.

I think I need to go back to the GP then. I had adenomyosis so was put on Utrogestan. But as you say, I may not need it now. Probably should not self medicate myself; sorry.

Maybe I will fork out for private care and advice. Thanks both!

If you had adeno, that's only in the womb and that's gone now. It's not like endo which can be in other places and not removed with a hysterectomy.

It sounds as if your dr is mistaken.

I have a feeling hrt is safer without the progesterone which if that’s correct it’s worth seeing someone to see if you can stop it. Also the standard max dose is 4 pumps a day (I mean no specialist required, a gp can prescribe this much).

OP - have you had your cervix removed, too?If not, you may have been prescribed progesterone. Besides, the beneficial role of progesterone’s is not only limited to uterus.
