How many days of Utrogestan do you take?

I'm currently taking Utrogestan 15 days per cycle. I'm finding that I start heavy spotting any time after day 10, then I have my 'proper' bleed when I finish the course. It's annoying to be bleeding for so long. I'm wondering if shortening the course of Utrogestan might help with this.

How many days of Utrogestan do you take? Is this the same as you were prescribed? Can anyone direct me to any reading on the dose necessary?

@Christine0708 i started on one pump a day in the morning . Within two days I was gnashing my teeth and completely on edge all the time. Shaking and fuzzy headed. That would only wear off by teatime each day. I felt atrocious on the gel.

My consultant told me to take it continuously as my symptoms (mood swings, depression anxiety and rampant night sweats) were so severe. I still have a normal period that lasts about 3 days.

When I've mentioned this on here I've been shouted down but it has really helped with my symptoms. At my next check up I may ask about going down to 15 days on and then off but I don't want to go back to feeling how I did.

I am in the same situation as you. Been on sequential for 6 years then switched by Dr to continuous ultrogestan but still have a bleed every 24-28 days for 3-4 days (been just 6 months now) no change in this at all since taking them apart form 10 days of pmt symptoms that I didn't have on sequential.

@VanGoghsDog the only thing is if you move to continuous when still having periods you may get a lot of breakthrough bleeding as your own cycle breaks through. To help you remember to take it cyclical you can take it 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off x

That what I was doing. And I keep forgetting because it's not all the time. I never forget the gel because it's every day.

One a day will be easier to remember, I'll just take it with my supplements.

I don't know if I'm still having periods because with the merina coil, which I still have, I only ever got light occasional spotting anyway, which I still get now and then.

@VanGoghsDog The 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off was put into GP guidance on HRT by Dr Louise Newson who wrote the information. It was SUPPOSED to help women remember. However, one drawback is that 14 days is too much for some women (they get side effects.)

A far easier way to remember, suggested by consultants (including mine) is to choose the same day each month. The 1st suits a lot of women as it's easy to remember.

It's not a hard and fast rule that you have to take 14 days every 28. In fact, the actual dose is 12 days (as per the patient leaflet.) The 14 days is reserved as an option for women who need more because their withdrawal bleeds can be heavier with just 12 days.)

It's not remembering to start that I have a problem with (I write the date on the box and on my calendar), it's remembering each day that I'm in the 14 days, not the other 14 days. So I keep accidentally skipping days. It's far easier to just take something every day as then you can make it part of a routine.

My GP told me to go from 12 days to 14 days because my estrogen was being increased. Nothing to do with bleeding.
